Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Instructional Designer provides course design and development support, consultation in effective online and digital pedagogy, and faculty training and professional development to a wide range of faculty subject matter experts, including part-time fully-online faculty and full-time campus-based research faculty. The position works collaboratively with faculty and staff to develop courses and eLearning modules that challenge students to assess complex business problems and deliver innovative solutions. The successful candidate knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. As a member of a dynamic and highly skilled instructional design team, this individual is primarily charged with solving instructional challenges encountered in the delivery of online and blended learning environments using both synchronous and asynchronous approaches. In addition, works with leadership to conduct needs assessments, coordinate stakeholder communications and schedules, evaluate user feedback, and analyze project successes and areas for improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Distance Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Adult Learning and Literacy, Industry experience or Higher Education. An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be substituted (including applicable coursework/training in learning sciences/design).

Experience:
  • 3 to 5 years of experience working as an instructional designer or a similar role within a higher education setting.
  • Experience supporting and managing online credit and/or non-credit course design and development projects.
  • Experience with or demonstrated commitment to developing inclusive and equitable learning experiences.
  • Commitment to contributing to the School’s work in developing an environment that is inclusive and supportive of diversity.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects both independently and in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to recommend and implement solutions to complex instructional development problems. Brainstorm innovative strategies and design instructional content to meet the learning needs of different types of learners and environments.
  • Extremely well-versed in application of design methodologies including but not limited to: ADDIE model, SAM, backward design, and interactive learning experiences.
  • Experience in designing authentic assessments and engaging course content.
  • Experience developing online courses in an LMS environment.
  • Ability to be creative, flexible, and innovative in course design.
  • Highly proficient computer skills to include MS Office Suite and G-Suite.
  • Demonstrated expertise in using authoring tools such as Captivate and Storyline to create sophisticated adaptive learning content.

  • Ability to provide instructional, curriculum, and technical design consulting services to subject matter experts.
  • Experience in collaborating with teams and clients to manage expectations.
  • Excellent English-language verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, superior organizational skills, self-direction, and motivation are a must.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Experience with basic video editing and lecture capture (such as Panopto).
  • Experience with the Quality Matters rubric to develop detailed design documents that are used to guide content production.
  • Ability to foster faculty enthusiasm for and engagement in the use of innovative technologies for teaching.
  • Ability to create, update, and maintain clear documentation and other instructional materials (manuals, multimedia and online tutorials) for faculty.
  • Driven by standards of excellence and committed to continuous improvement.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Experience teaching in a two- or four-year Higher education institution.
  • Experience developing online courses in the Canvas LMS environment.
  • Quality Matters Peer Reviewer Certification preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Proficiency in design, psychology, and data science will be beneficial.
  • Demonstrated expertise in using authoring tools such as Captivate and Storyline to create sophisticated adaptive learning content.
  • Experience with basic graphic and video editing skills using the adobe creative suite or similar products.
