Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Associate Director for Assessment and Research for Rutgers Residence Life. The Associate Director for Assessment and Research is an integral part of Rutgers Residence Life. They will provide leadership, direction and support for assessment and research initiatives of the department. Reporting to the Director for Residence Education, the Associate Director is responsible for providing vision and leadership for the development and assessment of learning outcomes and assessment efforts as well as operational and programmatic outcomes for all aspects of the Department of Residence Life.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Leads and educates staff and living-learning community faculty in assessment methods and resources, formulate departmental assessment policies and practices and engage in policy formation and implementation as it pertains to the strategic goals and direction of the department. Leads projects by designing and implementing data collection, analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data and/or mixed methods, writing reports of findings and guiding and coaching staff through interpretations and dissemination of findings that advance student learning and enhance the residential student experience.
  • Recommends and conducts quantitative and qualitative research, investigating factors that affect student satisfaction, engagement and development.
  • Serves as the Department’s point of contact for assessment and research with other departments within the Division of Student Affairs and partners. These university partners include the Institutional Research and Academic Planning unit and Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
  • Utilizes 3rd party platforms and programs such as Campus Labs, Skyfactor Inc., Qualtrics, and Roompact, to provide assessment related services.
  • Works in collaboration and partnership with the Director of Student Affairs Research and Assessment regarding assessment priorities and strategies and will oversee particular Student Affairs Assessment initiatives as determined.
  • Provides training to the Rutgers Residence Life staff to build competencies in the areas of assessment and research and will be a member of the Divisional Committee for Assessment and Planning.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in higher education, social sciences or related field with strong experience in assessment and program evaluation, knowledge of assessment processes, student learning outcomes, and experience with the design, administration and analysis of assessment instruments.
  • 3-5 years experience in educational assessment, process improvement, applied statistics, social sciences or a higher education setting.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent analytical, oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have knowledge of assessment methodology, educational research design, accountability issues and student learning outcomes.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge/experience in research design, program evaluation and/or assessment of student learning, and have experience in synthesizing and interpreting complex data and reporting findings to a variety of constituents in both oral and written communication.
  • Experience with data management (data gathering or storage) or statistical packages such as SPSS.
  • Experience with using survey software and reporting platforms such as Campus Labs and Qualtrics.
  • Must have an understanding of student and staff development within the context of Student Affairs work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree: Ph.D, Ed.D or doctoral student who is ABD.

  • This position regularly will utilize various assessment and analytical tools including:
    Campus Labs, Collegiate Link, SPSS, Database Software including Access, MS SQL, Oracle , Odyssey (Housing Management System).
