Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

While not required, the ideal candidate has a background in student affairs, higher education, scholarship administration programs, leadership, organizational development, or related field. No engineering experience is expected or required of this position.

The Clark Scholars Program Network serves as the central hub for the 11 institutions that are recipients of the Clark Scholarship. The A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland serves as the catalyst for high-quality research, innovation, and learning, preparing our students to create innovations that will address the 21st century Grand Challenges (e.g., energy, environment, security, and human health) and improve the human condition. The Clark School is dedicated to leading and transforming the engineering discipline and profession, to accelerating entrepreneurship, and to transforming research and learning activities into new innovations that benefit millions.

Reporting to the Director of the CSPN, the Program Coordinator provides administration support for annual scholar conferences, CSPN program director meetings, and all CSPN related events and program. This person is the day-to-day lead on updating and maintaining the CSPN student database, administratively supporting the Director and Assistant Director, managing the CSPN-wide Slack channels and social media content, providing hands-on support and timely responses to inquiries, and scheduling and planning meetings for CSPN staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Background working in an administrative role in scholarship administration, student programming, alumni engagement, or event planning, preferably with college students and graduates.
  • Experience using O365 programs or Google Suite, customer relationship management (CRM) programs (such as Salesforce) and experience social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Slack.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to utilize technology to maintain program records.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple processes and competing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) with multiple audiences, such as students and families, alumni, staff, faculty, university administration, and donors.
  • Skilled at developing and managing multiple projects.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.
  • General administrative skills and computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Background in student affairs, higher education, leadership, organizational development, or related field
  • Experience using and leveraging customer relationship management (CRM) software (e.g. Salesforce, Blackbaud, etc.)
  • Experience in student development and engagement programming, student support services, undergraduate recruitment, or scholarship administration.
  • Experience working with low-income, engineering, first generation or recipients of scholarships.
  • Experience with event management in a higher education setting.

Physical Demands

  • Mostly sedentary work performed in an office environment requiring the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards for extended
    times.
  • Ability to review, prepare, and analyze data and figures, transcribe, and engage extensive reading of materials and computer screens.
  • Ability to traverse short/long distances on and off campus to attend meetings and events.
  • Position requires involvement in the set-up, break-down and staging at meetings and special events.
  • Position requires travel to network institutions on occasion.
  • This position allows for a combination of in-person and telework days as approved by the supervisor. Guidance regarding hybrid work is subject to change at any time to align with operational or business needs.
