SPA's Sea Land Air (SLA) Division supports a diverse portfolio of national security government clients, including the Undersea Enterprise, the Navy Surface Community, the Navy MPTE Enterprise, the Air Force, Army, DoD Agencies, DARPA, international clients including the Canadian Navy and Australian Defence Force. SPA's Operations Research and Cyber Analysis (ORCA) Group develops and employs simulation system products in support of operations, experimentation, and the acquisition analysis process. ORCA analysts apply Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) principles and tools to identify and analyze trends in big data to solve real-world problems. ORCA software engineers and cyber security professionals develop, build, and deploy custom hardware and software solutions to meet our client's toughest challenges.

SPA is hiring a Network Engineer to provide architecture, design, implementation, testing, network analysis, configuration management, and cybersecurity support for Navy local area networking and wide area networking systems. This position is aligned with SPA's Operations Research and Cyber Analysis (ORCA) group, located in their San Diego office.

Responsibilities

The Network Tactical Common Data Link (NTCDL) team needs a Senior Network Engineer contractor to support networking efforts throughout the NTCDL program. Ideally, a candidate would be experienced in Navy networks (CANES, ADNS, comms, etc.). This candidate will need to be able to lead networking efforts with minimal leadership guidance and must be motivated to solve complex problems independently.

Some of the scope would include: 1) Analyze and administer the technical architecture of Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks, 2) Researches, runs tests, evaluates, and recommends telecommunications and data network systems, 3) Analyzes workload, including traffic and utilization trends, 4) Interfaces with users, consultants, technical teams, and vendors for maximum guidance in determining the most appropriate type of hardware installation and NTCDL networking architecture design solutions, 5) Help maintain configuration management of network equipment in the NTCDL system, 6) Support cyber security efforts related to networking equipment in the NTCDL system, and 7) Applies advanced knowledge and experience in the area of local and wide area networking, communications, and related hardware and software.

Your role will include bringing resolution to networking problems associated with Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) networks and upgrades, managing networking processes, procedures and resources, and serving as a networking subject matter expert to engineers, technicians, and IT specialists in planning, distributing, coordinating, and monitoring networking work assignments of the program.

Travel may be required to support remote client events, up to 20%.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are commensurate with experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. California Pay Transparency Range: $110,000-$150,000

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field and a minimum of 4 years of network engineering experience, or Master's degree
  • Proficient in Red Hat Enterprise Linux operation and system management
  • Proficient in Cisco network devices including switches, routers, and firewalls

  • Certifications recommended: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Routing and Switching Certification; CompTIA Security+ Certification; CompTIA Linux+ Certification

  • System Access Requirements: NMCI NIPR/SIPR, Access to NTCDL lab system, NIWC PAC RDT&E, and Flank Speed M365 Suite

  • DoD Secret Clearance is required, with the ability to maintain it throughout employment

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to apply knowledge of engineering/networking and the ability to apply fundamental and professional engineering and scientific concepts, theoretical foundations of networking/engineering, and practices to achieve engineering or computer networking objectives with versatility, judgment, and perception.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of design characteristics, limitations, and potential applications of engineering and computer systems, as well as IT, computer and network hardware, and computer systems architecture and integration.
