The University Honors Program enriches the educational experience of a community of academically motivated, intellectually curious, and high-potential students from all communities, providing them a platform for achieving their unique potential. The program offers interdisciplinary HON seminars that feature co-curricular experiences; the Honors Forum, a co-curricular experience that includes addresses by public figures, discussions of contemporary issues, performances, and off-campus excursions; programs that allow students to engage in cultural, career, and outdoor exploration; study abroad programs; and a residential village developed with partners in University Housing.
Essential Job Duties
The Assistant Director will coordinate the University Honors Program (UHP) admissions process for first-year, transfer, and current NC State students.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Recruitment
- Develop timelines for the admissions process.
- Participate in university recruitment programs on campus and throughout North Carolina.
- Design and implement orientation sessions for admissions cycles.
- Create application and recruitment materials, develop rubrics for application, review, and develop content for recruitment brochures.
- Participate in university conversations about admissions and liaise with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, campus scholarship programs, NC State colleges, and academic departments.
- Collect and analyze data on UHP admissions processes.
Retention
- Develop a comprehensive advising program for UHP students.
- Manage UHP retention effort by communicating program requirements and resources to students and confirming student progress through program milestones.
- Develop workshops regarding program requirements, opportunities, and services. Deliver these workshops in conjunction with other members of the UHP team.
- Serve as primary advisor for a subset of UHP students.
- Serve as a resource for faculty and staff with questions about UHP requirements and processes.
- Provide leadership for UHP student services and refer questions and appointments to other members of the UHP team as required.
Completion
- Manage program completion process for graduating students each semester.
- Develop communications and workshops to support students as they work to fulfill their program requirements during their final semesters at NC State.
- Coordinate program completion ceremonies each fall and spring semester.
- Liaise with Registration and Records and campus departments to communicate information about and recognition for students completing the UHP.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Serve as UHP advisor for 300 students.
- Support the design and delivery of UHP enrichment programming.
Other Responsibilities
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Associate Director.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master’s degree
Other Required Qualifications
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
- Ability to retrieve, analyze, and summarize data
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with collegiality
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with high-achieving students in a university setting
- Experience working in higher education
Required License(s) or Certification(s)
NC Valid Driver’s License is required.
