Job Description

The Montgomery College, Takoma Park/Silver Spring, and Germantown campuses are accepting applications for possible openings as part-time faculty members teaching Nutrition Science.  We seek an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits high professionalism, a solid commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate engagingly in the classroom and a virtual environment.

  • The listing of a course in the schedule of classes as “TBA” does not constitute an assignment.
  • The hiring decision for part-time faculty involves an academic judgment and shall be determined at Management’s sole discretion.
  • During the academic year, part-time faculty at Montgomery College may teach no more than 11.5 ESH (equivalent semester hour) per semester and no more than 23 ESH per academic year.
  • During summer, part-time faculty at Montgomery College may teach no more than 10 ESH (equivalent semester hours) for both sessions combined.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Faculty member will teach Introduction to Nutrition, Nutrition Through the Life Cycle, Food Science and Technology, and other courses related to Nutrition Science, mentor and advise students, and participate in department and college affairs. They will also engage in ongoing professional development (e.g., seminars and conferences) to stay current with cutting-edge pedagogies and methodologies.
  • Adjunct instructors may be used to cover part-time, temporary, and/or substitute openings in the department. Assignments can vary in duration and are not guaranteed. Courses may be offered at any of our campuses, including off-site locations, as needed. Duties for Nutrition Science adjuncts include:
  • Providing effective classroom instruction through culturally relevant pedagogies to the teaching and learning process, education resources, methods, and materials appropriate to the subject matter.
  • Preparing and grading all class assignments and examinations.
  • Advising, assisting, evaluating students, evaluating learning outcomes, and maintaining regular office hours.
  • Participating in paid program activities, including curriculum and program planning, development, evaluation, and decision-making, as well as developing new teaching-learning methods and materials.
  • Participation in departmental and college professional training activities.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely student records as required.
  • Maintaining currency and depth of knowledge in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Communicating with excellent written and oral skills in English.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related science field.
  • Successful candidates must be willing to teach classes on any of our three Montgomery college campuses or off-campus locations (teaching Early College and Middle College students), requiring background checks and fingerprinting.
  • Successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the College's strategic inclusion plan.
  • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus)*.  Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools.  *If you do not have access to a personal computer, please notify the department chair during the interview. Subject to available funds, the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree is preferred.
  • Three or more years of teaching experience.
  • Five or more years of full-time corporate work experience.
  • Distance Learning and face-to-face teaching experience.
