Adjunct Faculty- Online Nutrition

Job Description

Western Wyoming Community College is seeking a highly motivated individual to teach online nutrition courses. Applicant will be responsible for fostering student learning through effectively teaching nutrition courses in the School of Health Sciences and Wellness. The primary responsibility of this individual is to provide quality instruction to Western students enrolled in a variety of courses.

This individual must be able to relate to a wide variety of student in the community college environment. Teaching responsibilities include offering instruction to students of various skill level and experience, effectively providing college level nutrition instruction over distance education mediums. Additional duties will be dependent upon qualifications and interests of the applicant and the needs of the department.

It is expected that this individual will accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner, and strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public. This individual must follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provides quality instruction to students in assigned courses. May teach up to 9 credit hours per semester.
2. Provides quality learning experiences for all students in accordance with their needs and abilities while maintaining the basic integrity of the course’s standards and objectives.
3. Provides a safe environment and adheres to safety standards of practice established within the discipline.
4. Utilizes syllabi, evaluation tools, and other materials provided by the Program Facilitator and Division Chair.
5. States clear objectives and criteria in each course syllabus; follows the Curriculum Committee’s guidelines regarding course syllabi; integrates appropriate WWCC Goals for
Student Success into each course; evaluates students’ performance in light of these objectives and criteria.
6. Teaches courses effectively using a variety of online modalities. Courses may be offered in the fall, spring or summer semesters and on varying schedules.
7. Designs and implements effective learning processes for students; provides feedback on student improvement in attaining the College’s Learning Goals.
8. Learns to communicate clearly and effectively using the college network system, Canvas, and word processing; integrates learning with technology into the classroom as appropriate.
9. Orders the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
10. Refers students to the resources in the College Learning Center, Peer Tutor Center, Library, Career and Placement Services, and Wellness & Accessibility Center.
11. Participates in relevant College wide in-service activities.
12. Submits syllabi, student evaluations, grades, and other required information in a timely manner.
13. Submits re-certification documents in a timely manner and completes End-of-Year Evaluations as requested by the Division Chair.
Minimum Qualifications

1. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Master of Science degree in Nutrition or Food Science, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and currently holds a minimum of 18 credited hour in Master’s prepared course work.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of the concepts, technologies, principles and practices in Nutrition.
3. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and administrators.
4. Able to exercise sound judgment in all facets of the student-teacher relationship and to teach a diverse group of community college students.
5. Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
6. Demonstrate use of effective online teaching techniques.
7. Provides evidence of continued professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Registered Dietitian
2. Demonstrated teaching excellence at a community college.
