Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for teaching adult education classes using instructional methods geared towards the adult learner in a traditional and virtual classroom setting
  • Plan lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students which prepare students to pass the high school equivalency tests and/or enhance basic education skills
  • Delivers whole group, small group, and individualized instruction to students, using a variety of instructional methods, materials, and techniques
  • Create a traditional and virtual classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students
  • Assure that students who qualify are pre- and post-tested as needed using the TABE 11 and 12 Assessment as dictated by DRC and Adult Education guidelines
  • Keep daily attendance records and progress reports
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date records
  • Conduct preliminary interviews to determine a student’s eligibility for the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) grant & refer to the HEP Program Lead if the student is eligible to be certified
  • Maintain all HEP paperwork and ensure each qualified HEP student completes the criteria for the program
  • Participate and manage registration, testing, and scheduling events
  • Establish a positive and trusting relationship with students
  • Foster student accountability, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and critical thinking skills
  • Adhere to regulations set forth regarding confidentiality of student records
  • Promote participation of students in all aspects of Adult Education programming
  • Maintain clean and professional classroom environment

 

Required Education:

  • An Associate degree or higher
  • Strong communication skills, including both written and oral, with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of personalities

 


Preferred Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Three (3) years teaching experience
  • Experience using web-based educational platforms (Google Classroom, Canvas, Blackboard, Khan Academy, etc.)
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint, and cloud-based applications and tools

 

NOTE: This position is a grant funded position, and the continuation of the position is dependent upon funding availability. Continuation is based on the program meeting state and federal benchmarks.

Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.
