Position Summary

Salary Placement and Work Hours: This is a 12-month position, placed on the D-3 Salary Schedule with a pay range of $40,900-$68,227, depending upon degree and applicable work experience, at the President's discretion. The work week is Monday through Friday, and hours worked will be a minimum of 40 per week. As a grant-funded position, non-probationary status cannot be attained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
The Adult Education Instructor will administer assessment instruments to diagnose, evaluate, and place adult learners in the adult education program; teach in both traditional and distance education formats; submit reports and data as required; participate in committee assignments; assist with advocating adult education in the community; and comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Northeast Alabama Community College. This positions answers to the Adult Education Program Director and the President.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:
1. Provide learning opportunities that draw upon and extend learners’ knowledge, skills, and interest
2. Link instruction to the learner’s academic needs as determined by the results of valid, reliable assessment and reassessment
3. Select materials and choose teaching styles that address individual learning styles
4. Extend learners’ knowledge and competency using technology to aid learning
5. Solve conflicts and problems in the classroom
6. Provide a respectful and supportive learning environment
7. Convey the expectation of success to adult learners
8. Require adult learners to engage in analysis, investigation, and interpretation as part of the learning process
9. Assist with learner intake and orientation by:
  • Providing a welcoming, encouraging, and respectful atmosphere.
  • Engaging in an exchange of information with entering adult learners.
  • Providing the program’s philosophy, goals, instructional services, schedules, attendance policies, and any other relevant information.
  • Determining the support services needed and informing entering adult learners of available support services
  • Recording the adult learner’s goals and needs.
  • Acknowledging learners’ doubts or anxieties about entering the program.
10. Participate in all professional development opportunities provided by the instructional supervisor or the state adult and community education staff, including attendance at the Annual Adult Education Summer Conference. Teachers are encouraged to support state and national adult education and literacy advocacy organizations.
11. Administer assessment instruments to diagnose, evaluate, and place adult learners in adult education program.
12. Utilize the results of a properly administered assessment instrument and develop a plan of instruction (POI) that identifies each objective and/or skill for which each learner has demonstrated non- and/or partial-mastery.
13. Visit other classes for the purpose of observation, curriculum consultation, and coordination as directed by the Program Director.
14. Assist with grant applications and proposals as directed by the Program Director
15. Assist with preparation and distribution of publicity materials and learner recruitment.
16. Assist with preparation and implementation of program activities such as workshops, in-service training, graduation, etc.
17. Complete other tasks as directed by the Program Director and/or President.
18. Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Northeast Alabama Community College

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, presentational, and writing skills with proficiency in the English language is required
  • Ability to work efficiently with Microsoft Office Products (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) is required
  • Knowledge and understanding of Adult Education and life-long learning preferred
  • Understanding of the mission and goals of Northeast Alabama Community College and the Alabama Community College System
  • Ability to teach day and evening classes as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Teaching experience at the K-12, Adult Education, and/or Postsecondary level is preferred

Interviews are then scheduled at the President’s discretion and will be conducted via a web-interface such as Zoom, Skype, or Microsoft Teams. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Criminal Background Checks - In accordance with Alabama Community College System policy and procedures, the applicant chosen for employment will be required to sign a consent form for a criminal background check. Employment will be contingent upon the receipt of a clearance notification from the criminal background check.
