Job Description:

The Veterinary Technology Laboratory Assistant /Senior Technical Assistant is responsible for the following duties:

  • Laboratory Equipment: Clean, maintain and store lab equipment; perform quality control measures (e.g. routine maintenance of microscopes, CBC and chemistry analyzers, anesthetic machines and monitors, autoclave, radiographic processor, surgical tables/lights, dental equipment, eye wash stations, etc.); sterilize and maintain surgical and dental instruments; launder all surgical gowns, drapes, towels, etc.; maintain program laptops and associated programs such as Dentalaire and Impromed; repair or order maintenance of existing equipment; train new faculty on policies and handling of equipment; provide assistance/demonstrations to students on equipment use; and oversee work study students in the maintenance and care of lab equipment.
  • Ordering/Invoicing: Order the necessary equipment and supplies for laboratory sessions by submitting requisitions and orders with quotes; submit payment vouchers monthly for rental property; submit payment vouchers for respective technical services/partnerships; maintain record of all membership/licensing fees and respective due dates and submit payments on a timely manner; manage invoices for processing and record keeping; receive and catalogue orders; inventory stock for record keeping; and communicate with vendors and representatives on products.
  • Community Outreach: Arrange off-campus laboratory sessions at affiliated settings; establishment of new clinical affiliations; recruitment of students through social media, marketing, and advertising strategies; manage the programs Facebook page; manage the program's job and internship opportunities; coordinate schedules for committee meetings; distribute communications to the veterinary community about upcoming events; follow-up on information and distribute minutes to professional advisory board; and maintain relationships with respective vendors for possible donations.
  • Laboratory/Classroom/Students: Assist instructors/students during laboratory instruction; set-up and break down laboratory classes as well as laboratory practicals; arrange and assist in transportation of animals for respective labs from local shelters; coordinate and participate in farm visits for farm animal labs; collect biological specimens from local shelters for respective labs; maintain all chemicals and ensure all s labeled correctly following AVMA and OSHA regulations; coordinate sharps, biological waste, and cadaver disposal; schedule and assist in rabies vaccination clinics held on campus; assist instructors in the classroom when needed, providing support for online instruction via zoom when necessary; submit textbook orders to the campus bookstore each semester; assist and keep minutes for departmental, IACUC and advisory board committee meetings; provide tutoring assistance for laboratory procedures/skills to students including VTNE prep and Kahoot game development; and assist faculty and department chair with additional documentation.
  • Record Keeping:  maintain and update affiliation agreements both digital and hard copies; manage renewal dates for associated contracts and assist in renewal completion; keep record of all animals utilized by the program, including rabies vaccination status; maintain pre-exposure rabies vaccination proof for all students; maintain health insurance documentation for all students; maintain student injury log both on and off campus; input students documented required essential skills into Excel spreadsheet as well as recording program, Salthouse; and maintain and update MSDS and SDS sheets
  • All other duties, as assigned.


Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess a high school or equivalency diploma and at least three years of experience in the field. Possession of a LVT (State of NY) or LATG certification with experience working an educational facility is required. The successful candidate must also have experience with Microsoft Office Suite (including Microsoft Excel).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Dental and/or large animal or exotic animal experience preferred.

 


Additional Information:

SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $51,473 plus excellent benefits.
