Clackamas Community College (CCC) at the Oregon City, Oregon campus seeks to hire a full-time permanent Instructor position in our Criminal Justice program starting fall 2024. College and Division:

The Criminal Justice Program is housed within the Education, Early Childhood Education, Human Services and Criminal Justice Department which resides in the Technology Applied Science and Public Services Division. As a division, we are one of four Instructional and Student Support divisions at CCC. The four divisions are: Academic Foundations and Connections (AFAC), Arts and Sciences (A &S), Institutional Effectiveness and Planning (IEP) and Technology, Applied Science and Public Services (TAPS). The Technology Applied Science and Public Services Division includes ten departments: Customized Training and Development Services, Small Business Development Center, Workforce Development Services, Community Education, TAPS Grants & Career Pathways, Automotive & Welding Technology, Industrial Technology, Education, Early Childhood Education, Human Services & Criminal Justice, Health Sciences and Apprenticeship, Wildland Fire, Emergency Management & Geographic Information System.

Criminal Justice Program:

The Criminal Justice Program provides instruction and training in the areas of law enforcement, courts and corrections from faculty members with years of experience in the field. Students learn about community policing, criminal investigation, routine patrol and criminological theory. Students gain an appreciation of the various aspects of the criminal justice system and how they function.

A successful candidate will be a collaborative, innovative, and participatory faculty member with expertise in the criminal justice field who is excited to teach, support and mentor students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructors shall be responsible for imparting knowledge and developing skills through the instructional process under the direction of the department, the division and the College Administration. In carrying out their responsibilities, instructors shall exercise independent judgment based on adequate knowledge of subject matter, professional goals of subjects taught, teaching strategies, interpersonal relationships, and best practices of teaching and learning.

Instruction & Related Assignments:
  • Teaches a variety of criminal justice courses to a diverse student population
  • Develops and revises curricula, assessments and course materials for criminal justice courses
  • Teaches courses at times that meet student demand. This may include mornings, afternoons, evenings with the possibility of some weekends.
  • Teaches classes as assigned, following approved course outlines
  • Delivers instruction in a variety of modalities to meet program and student needs including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online
  • Prepares and develops materials for assigned classes
  • Posts and maintains student office hours
  • Provides students with course syllabi
  • Maintains records of grades and attendance; reports individual academic grades when required
  • Participates in assessment activities
  • Participates in professional development activities to remain current in the assigned discipline
  • Acts as a liaison to industry and to local high school teachers/students. Be involved with the college community, committee service and advisory committee meetings
  • Works harmoniously and collaboratively with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching learning, and service to a diverse student population
  • Attends and actively participates in department, division, College meetings and committees

Qualifications




Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or above in Criminal Justice or closely related field and a minimum of three years experience as a police officer.
  • Applicants are encouraged to include in their CV/Resume training, education, and work experiences that have given them current knowledge of policing philosophies, tactics, training practices, and related laws.

Physical Demands of the Position:

The position requires minimal (5-20%) physical effort such as lifting, carrying, or movement, etc. Movements required to complete work are not difficult, and only require some degree of agility and hand eye coordination.

Working Conditions:

The work environment is usually well-protected, with minimal hazards or obstacles (5-20%). There is little or minimal element of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are usually comfortable, with minimal (5-20%) issues of confinement, temperature change, incident of noise, or interactions of a disagreeable nature, inside/outside work, dirty conditions, exposure to contagious disease, etc. Position may have minimal responsibility for driving.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel and may assign work to student workers.

Works under the direction of the Dean of Technology Applied Science and Public Services.

Additional Information

The successful candidate in this position will work a 9-month contract and be paid for 175 days including six (6) paid holidays, per the Full-Time Faculty Bargaining Agreement. (insert agreement link)

Starting Salary Expectations:

Initial Salary Placement will be Step 3 ($80,430 annually) per the CCC Full-time Faculty bargaining agreement.

Benefits:

  • CCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. CCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.
  • CCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at CCC for yourself, domestic partner, and IRS dependents; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.
  • CCC qualifies as a public employer under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Terms of Employment:
  • All positions at CCC are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends.
  • Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials from a regionally accredited institutions, or the equivalent, as recognized by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) or National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).   • Your official transcripts will need to be sent from the Registrar of your degree granting institution within 30-days of your hire.
  • Employees must maintain Oregon or Washington residency as a condition of employment.
