Summary of Position

The Web Developer will work with a team to develop, maintain and enhance database-driven websites, applications and web elements for the public-facing websites of the University System of New Hampshire institutions with a strong focus toward user experience, accessibility, SEO principles and client specifications. The Web Developer provides technical leadership to support USNH strategic initiatives.

In this role, you will strategically develop and extend the Drupal content management system framework as well as develop software using PHP, javascript, jQuery, HTML, CSS, SQL and/or other languages. Experience in Web Services (SOAP, REST) and source code control (GitLab) is required.

You will also assist with establishing and maintaining a development environment that uses industry best practices for change management, including proper use of code repositories, properly leveraging development-test-production environments, security and adhering to programming standards that are auditable.

  • Bachelor’s degree and six years of experience in information technology field, Master’s and four years, or combination of education and experience equal to ten years.
  • Ability to be flexible, adapt and promote organizational core beliefs and values.
  • Demonstrated experience researching, analyzing, and implementing strategies to leverage technology to improve the user experience and/or develop new capability to meet emerging opportunities or challenges.
  • Experience in database-driven web applications, HTML5, CSS, Javascript, PHP, Drupal or WordPress content management systems.
  • Working knowledge of at least one SQL-based database.
  • Knowledge of version control system such as Git or svn.
  • Strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills.

Duty/Responsibility

Software development:
  • Develop websites and other software applications to meet client needs within the scope of the USNH institutions’ web style guides and policies. This includes designing, writing, and implementing new application software and enhancements to existing software; as well as designing application system solutions that employ current and emerging technologies.
  • Build standards-compliant websites using content management systems like Drupal and WordPress and web technologies like PHP, HTML, and CSS.
  • Work with complex data structures within relational databases.
  • Collaborate across teams to integrate AI capabilities into workflows and align AI initiatives with organizational goals
  • Leverage AI to improve code quality and automate coding tasks. This includes testing, debugging and improving efficiency by analyzing code for vulnerabilities and suggesting improvements.
  • Troubleshoot issues as required.
  • Maintain technical skills to ensure currency with new and emerging web technologies.
  • Provide documentation and technical support for supported applications.
  • Coordinate the tracking, implementation, and testing of software.
  • Oversee the maintenance schedule for software applications to ensure they stay up-to-date with latest stable versions and security releases.
  • Manage document libraries, Git and other information warehouses

  • Working closely with other project leaders, this position provides technical leadership by estimating project hours, developing functional and technical specifications, establishing timelines for software projects requested by our customers, and ensuring timely delivery of properly functioning application software.
