Essential Job Duties

The Market Research and Programs Evaluations Analyst at NC State Poole College of Management will lead the evaluation of Poole College’s program portfolio, driving data-driven insights to optimize performance and inform strategic decision-making by college leadership. The position will also lead a comprehensive rankings strategy for the college, ensuring accurate and timely submissions for national and international publications.

The role reports to the Director of Marketing and works closely with the Associate Dean of Academic Programs, as well as with assistant deans, and faculty directors of graduate and undergraduate programs.

Primary Responsibilities:

Market Research and Survey Design: 40%
  • Lead the design, development and implementation of comprehensive surveys for key stakeholders (alumni, students, employers) to gather data in support of academic programs.
  • Design unbiased surveys with clear objectives, targeting appropriate populations, and employing best practices for data collection and analysis.
  • Independently manage the entire survey lifecycle: distribution, administration, data validation, cleaning, and interpretation.
  • Synthesize and translate complex data into actionable insights, presented through clear reports, charts, and visualizations.
  • Benchmark the college’s student outcomes against competitor institutions, performing a competitive analysis to identify areas of strength and weakness.
  • Conduct comprehensive market research, utilizing secondary data to identify market trends, opportunities, and threats impacting academic program success.
  • Develop strategic recommendations for program optimization, specialization, and portfolio development based on market demands and industry needs.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to college leadership, providing data-driven insights to inform critical decisions regarding program effectiveness and future growth.

Programs Data & Rankings Management: 40% (graduate: 25%; undergraduate: 15%)
  • Lead the college’s rankings strategy, collaborating with key program leads and stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely submission for national and international publications (U.S. News & World Report, QS, Fortune, etc.).
  • Develop and implement data-driven strategies to elevate the college’s visibility and improve its position in key publications.
  • Independently analyze ranking methodologies and criteria, proactively making recommendations to adapt strategies and improve the college’s competitive advantage.
  • Identify and address data discrepancies or system flaws in university systems used for rankings submissions, driving improvements through process optimization and technology solutions.
  • Champion the exploration and implementation of data, systems, software, and processes that enhance the delivery of academic programs and contribute to higher rankings.

  • Other duties as assigned include the evaluation of technologies that may enhance programming in the college.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires a post-baccalaureate degree, or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as business, marketing, economics, sociology, psychology, statistics or a related field plus a minimum of two years of work experience.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced research design skills with experience in quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
  • Data analysis tools and software: Proficiency in data analysis tools and software commonly used for market research and program evaluation, like Qualtrics, Excel, (Google Sheets or SmartSheets), PowerPoint, Tableau, Power BI, SAS VA or similar.
  • Report Writing: The ability to synthesize and interpret data and present findings.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent project management and time management skills.
  • Understanding of ethical considerations involved in survey design, including informed consent, data privacy, and confidentiality, to ensure the survey complies with ethical standards and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred in Business Administration, Marketing Research, Educational Leadership, Sociology, or a closely aligned field with a focus on data analytics, research methodologies, or program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of college rankings methodologies and their impact on program development and institutional reputation.
  • Experience using statistical analysis software (R or Python) and enrollment management software (Slate) is highly preferred. Familiarity with email marketing/CRM platforms (e.g., Hubspot) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the higher education landscape, particularly business education, with a strong understanding of industry trends, best practices, and the unique needs of adult learners.
