The focus of the Genomics, Conservation, and Crop Improvement Laboratory is plant genomics. In collaboration with scientists from around the world, Ude lab personnel conduct research on several plant species using Next Generation Sequencing techniques. Our research-focused department requires a candidate with a strong commitment to excellence in research coordination. The candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator and/or other research faculty and personnel in molecular biology and biotechnology research projects. Coordination responsibilities may include associated supplies ordering and tracking, maintaining the operational excellence of research labs, and the implementation of varied lab protocols in molecular biology, biotechnology, and related areas. Coordination responsibilities may also include oversight for the Department of Natural Sciences Greenhouse to ensure that plants and samples are maintained carefully, watered daily, and adequate care is provided for their growth. Reporting responsibilities may also include tracking research progress, monitoring research and supplemental instructional activities, and preparing and completing pertinent reports on research activities.
- To grow and maintain plants in the greenhouse.
- To initiate different plant species into tissue culture.
- To sample plants and tissue molecularly, including genotyping and gene expression.
- To design and conduct experiments.
- To write and document protocols, SOPs, results, and data.
- To analyze and present data.
- A Doctoral degree in Plant Biology or other relevant field is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years experience in the industry or academia with extensive hands-on experience in conducting biotechnological research in plants.
- Experience in aseptic plant tissue culture.
- Experience in diverse molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extractions, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and restriction enzyme digestion and ligation.
- Working with plant cell suspensions
- Constructing expression and selection vector (cloning)
- Operating lab-scale controlled bioreactors
- Ability to work with others in a multi-disciplinary setting
- Microsoft Excel
- Aseptic technique
- Laboratory experience
- Communication skills
- Tissue culture
