Summary

 

The Killian-Abraham Labs in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Michigan Medicine are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team. Responsibilities*

 

The postdoctoral fellow will join a team investigating tendon and enthesis growth, adaptation, and healing.

  • The candidate will contribute to the design, approval, and revisions for studies involving human and animal research; and conduct experiments in association with graduate and undergraduate students focused tendon pathology on mouse and human in vitro models.
  • The individual will be expected to lead specific areas of basic science research related to tendon biology, including fibroblast cell-matrix interactions as well as the effects of obesity and inflammation.
  • Specific tasks the individual will be responsible for include microscopy; cell and tissue culture (including BSL2); tissue harvests; rodent handling and anesthesia/analgesia; molecular assays including gene expression, protein analyses, and -omics.
  • The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to contribute to the following: annual grant report writing for external funding entities; manuscript writing for publication in peer reviewed journals; grant writing; project management, including student/staff mentoring and training; reviewing and evaluation of pre-published literature (including pre-prints and invited reviewer contributions).
  • They will also contribute to the development and design of new research projects as well as suggest options for improvement for current projects. This person may also assist and supervise staff and students in the laboratory related to shared instrument operation.

 

Required Qualifications*

 

  • PhD in biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering, or related field.
  • Competency in cell/tissue culture and aseptic techniques.
  • Good interpersonal, teamwork, organizational, and communication skills are required.

 

Desired Qualifications*

 

  • Prior experience in orthopaedic or musculoskeletal-related research is desirable.

 

Background Screening

 

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
