The Organisation
Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) is the leading higher education (HE) provider on the Dublin-Belfast corridor serving the North East region. It is regionally embedded with a role in addressing national priorities and providing an international outlook. In May 2021, DkIT celebrated its 50th anniversary and is now ready to focus on its bright and exciting future. That future includes DkIT achieving its ambition to become a Technological University campus and elevating its role in the Region.

Delivered and supported by a staffing establishment of 575 WTE’s, teaching and learning is accessible, dynamic, research-informed and employer-relevant. Students are its most important asset and their success is vital to the continued economic, social and cultural development and growth of DkIT. DkIT hosts over 5,000 students with more than 600 international students. It aims to provide learners, families, employers, enterprise and communities access to HE within their own region.

DkIT is a green state-of-the-art campus with infrastructure valued at €300 million with future capital investment of over €40m. DkIT has developed a robust infrastructure of smart investment, financial controls and positive revenue streams to support future strategic planning with an annual operational budget/turnover of €48.5 million.

The Role
The President is the Chief Officer and responsible to the Governing Body and will provide strong and focussed leadership during significant change and development within the Irish HE landscape. Knowledge and understanding of the landscape and its future is essential in order to chart a clear path for DkIT to thrive, including the achievement of Technological University status for DkIT. The President will play a critical role in leading DkIT’s vision and guiding the Institute to greater regional and national prominence, with responsibility for planning, implementation and delivery of DkIT’s strategic ambition, whilst also leading and managing DkIT’s teaching, research, and service missions.

The Person
A successful candidate will require a track record of leadership, organisation and change management and be able to evidence execution of vision and strategy. Building partnerships and fostering relationships is critical. A thorough understanding of the Irish HE landscape, navigation of same with an understanding of the regional culture will provide a distinct advantage.
