Job Description:

The Mathematics Department of Westchester Community College is seeking an Instructor of Mathematics (Tenure Track). Instructional responsibilities for the position include teaching a full course load in developmental and/or credit-bearing courses spanning the full range of two-year mathematics offerings with additional hours each week dedicated to serving students in office hours. Summer teaching and overload opportunities are also available.

The incumbent will:

  • Assess student learning through demonstrated reflective practice, including assessment of student learning. This includes ongoing formative assessments, as well as official departmental assessment.
  • Manage classes and learning environments through fostering a positive classroom-learning environment by presenting information in a way that is inclusive to all learners.
  • Support learning through student engagement, incorporating pedagogical strategies such as active learning, authentic and problem-based activities, and other successful teaching strategies into classroom instruction.


Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  A Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, or a closely related field with at least 15 graduate hours in mathematics, is required. One year of college-level teaching experience is also required.

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  It is preferred that the successful candidate have at least two years of college-level teaching experience, ideally at a community college.  Additional preference will be given to applicants who have experience with classroom technology, student-centered pedagogy, and co-requisite teaching models, as well as backgrounds in Mathematics Education and Data Science education.  Familiarity with teaching methods using Open Educational Resources is also preferred.

POSITION EFFECTIVE:    Fall 2025

SALARY & BENEFITS:  The starting salary is $75,170. Additional compensation with seniority steps maximize at a salary of $88,234. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, a choice of defined benefit and/or defined contribution pension plan, generous leave benefits, and access to tax sheltered annuities and a deferred compensation plan.
