Job Description

The Business Advisor counsels small business owners and entrepreneurs in business viability, operations, financial planning and funding, technical assistance, and other various aspects of starting and scaling a small business. Supports business owners in identifying business needs and aids. Aids business owners in completing the program through collaboration. Markets nominal-cost business webinars and training on the relevant subject matter. Measures and evaluates activities and focuses on program outcomes of both job creation and revenue generation. The SBDC Business Advisor is responsible for organizing, developing, implementing and administering programs and services that support the successful design and implementation of grant-supported initiatives that advance the College’s strategic plan, specifically the Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The SBDC Business Advisor fosters a strong climate for small business growth by providing in-depth, confidential, no-cost business counseling, no to low-cost training, and resource and referral services to Ohio’s small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. The SBDC is part of Business Growth Services which embodies a dynamic team focused on innovative partnerships that support business growth, build the talent pipeline, and provide accelerated pathways to careers in advanced manufacturing, technology and other high demand fields. This work is organized in close partnership with other community organizations, LCCC divisions, education and workforce partners, industry representatives and local/regional/state leaders.

Overview

  • Experienced contributor. Responsible for completing tasks as assigned and explaining policies and procedures to others. Proposes solutions to roadblocks to completion of tasks.
  • Identifies and resolves noticeable, well-defined problems. Able to alter the order in which work, or a procedure is performed to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • May recommend or implement modifications to practices and procedures to improve efficiency, service, and quality. May contribute insights and ideas on policies, processes, procedures, and efficiency in an area.

Continues to develop and apply professional/theoretical expertise. Applies college policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.

Complexity and Impact

Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Builds productive internal/external working relationships. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices, drawing on prior experience, to determine appropriate action. Responsible for making moderate changes or enhancements in systems and processes to solve problems or improve effectiveness of area.

Degree of Supervision/Autonomy

Works under general supervision, in compliance withe stablished procedures and protocols. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy. May provide general guidance/direction/training to more junior staff.

 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of related experience. May possess some additional job-specific training
  • Applicants must be willing to complete necessary certifications within the first 12 months of employment

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Certified Business Advisor
  • GrowthWheel Certification
  • A minimum of 4-7 years of related experience. May possess appropriate licensures or certifications with some advanced training.
