.Job Description
Great Basin College (Elko) is seeking to fill a part-time instructional position in Political Science beginning Spring Semester 2025. The position requires teaching PSC 101: Introduction to American Politics.
Part-time faculty members at GBC are appointed and assigned to teach specific courses on an as-needed basis as determined by academic departments. Instructors must follow all requirements and direction of the department regarding course content, presentation, and assessment. All are required to prepare clear course syllabi that include the learning outcomes of the course and other specification as required and approved by the respective department and college. Part-time instructors must manage their courses in an effective manner aligned with GBC and department guidelines and complete course assessments in accordance with college and department schedules.
Minimum Qualifications:

An earned Master’s Degree in Political Science or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.

Experience teaching college-level courses.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
An earned doctorate in Political Science.

Experience teaching college-level American Government courses online.
Responsibilities:
All part-time instructors must adhere to all GBC policies and guidelines in the delivery of course material and in the assessment of students and the classes being taught. Responsibilities may vary with department and specific courses, and the requirements of the departments must be followed. General responsibilities include the following:

Create a course syllabus that addresses the requirements of the college and the department for each class taught; syllabus must be complete and available when the class is first open to the students.

The expectations of students for each class taught must be clearly communicated at the beginning of each class.

Engage students in a meaningful, fulfilling, and valuable educational experience.

Instructors must record and maintain complete and accurate records of student grading and achievement..

Near the end of each term, students must be appropriately provided with the class rating survey to complete and return.
-
Final grades for each class must be turned in by the specified date.
-
Adhere to all requirements for student privacy (FERPA).
-
All timelines established for instruction must be adhered to.
-
Must properly utilize access to the student records system and the GBC email system.
-
Must regularly communicate with the affiliated department in the required formats.
-
All requirements of GBC and NSHE policies, procedures, and guidelines must be adhered to.

Course assessments must be completed in accordance with college and department schedules.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary for this position is $850 per credit for each class taught.
This is a part-time position that is not eligible for benefits.
