Job Description
Job Title- COORDINATOR-STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Position Status- Full Time
Classification Title- Grade 105
Work Location- Main Campus-3600 N. Garfield, Midland, TX
Job Summary- Responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring campus-wide student activities initiatives. Other responsibilities include creating and implementing leadership and organizational management programs for recognized student organizations (RSO), RSO budgetary oversight, and New Student Orientation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree; or Associate’s Degree (or equivalent – 60 college credit hours) and a minimum of two years of relevant experience that includes demonstrated work experience with detail-oriented tasks of a significant nature
- Strong organization, planning, and managerial skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and facilitate student engagement programs
- Interpersonal skills with a demonstrated record of successful work with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside a higher education setting
- Ability to exercise initiative and work independently
- Track, collect, and synthesize data in spreadsheets and report formats
- Use tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Strong commitment to teamwork and student support
- Common knowledge of different sporting equipment, rules, and field setup
- Computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in student personnel, student activities, counseling, sports, or a closely related field
- Bachelor’s Degree in a student-services or business-related field
Essential Functions
- Utilize relevant research and evidence-based practices for creating positive individual and environmental outcomes for students as well as developing student learning outcomes for the programs developed
- Schedule, develop, implement, deliver, and assess leadership and student organization programs for the Midland College student body in the areas including critical thinking, communication, organizational management, and teamwork
- Manage Student Center, including student Club Room and eating area
- Supervise club organizations, including maintenance of records of funds and the RSO Handbook
- Aid and advise club sponsors and members with club operations
- Communicate with campus clubs, organizations, and departments to plan activities, events, and coordinate the use of facilities
- Direct the program of New Student Orientation, work with departments to facilitate presenters and content
- Plan, provide, and obtain approval for student activities (including maintenance of calendar of events,) approval of student travel, and providing campus-wide advertisement of activities
- Use a wide range of accessible media, including educational technologies, electronic and web-based programs, and social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) to create, develop, and promote student participation in health education and promotion programs.
- Develop activities to engage commuter and online students
- Supervise fund-raising for various clubs and organizations
- Assist with advising the Student Government Association
- Respect and maintain the confidentiality of all students and staff and all student and staff records
- Work effectively both autonomously and as a team member
- Assist Athletics with game management during the spring semester
- Will be working directly with students, faculty, and staff
- Some travel may be required
- Fiscal management of the budget
- Participate in continuing education, professional and personal development opportunities
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move or drive from office to other locations on and off campus
- This position may require occasional travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
- Use of manual dexterity
- The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Frequently moves boxes or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds
- Duties indoors and some outdoors
- Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events
Security Sensitivity- All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
Min Salary- $22.33 per hour
Max Salary- $22.67 per hour
Pay Statement- Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
