Job Summary

The Vice President of Institutional Advancement is an administrative officer of the College and a member of the President’s Cabinet. This individual has a critical role in strategic leadership as well as management of all development efforts of the College and the Midland College Foundation. The Vice President is responsible for strategic decision-making and furtherance of cross-College collaboration in support of the College’s mission and goals. The Vice President of Institutional Advancement reports to the College President.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Minimum of three years of related experience
  • Demonstrated ability to raise funds through various efforts
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from varied backgrounds
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be familiar with major College programs, the Midland College Foundation, corporations, private foundations, individuals, federal/state funding sources, and public relations
  • Competent in the use of applications utilized by the College
  • Knowledge of general office equipment including computer, email, fax, copier, and telephone system
  • Effectively manage time and priorities to meet established deadlines
  • Work and communicate effectively with all levels of co-workers and other external contacts
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Work in a team environment with multiple, sometimes changing priorities
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of successful fundraising and donor relationship management in higher education
  • Proficiency in fundraising software and donor databases

Essential Functions

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive advancement strategy aligned with the College’s mission and goals
  • Assist in the development and execution of a comprehensive business and community relations strategy that advances the College’s vision and strategic priorities
  • Provide operational support for the Midland College Foundation
  • Lead and manage all fundraising initiatives, including annual giving, major gifts, and capital campaigns
  • Oversee the development and execution of selected special events and donor recognition programs
  • Collaborate with College leadership and other departments to ensure alignment and support for advancement efforts
  • Establish and cultivate key relationships with philanthropic organizations, businesses, and community entities.
  • Participate in local, state, and national professional associations and serve on local non-profit boards as appropriate.
  • Provide appropriate representation of the College at business and community meetings and events
  • Utilize data and analytics to track progress, assess effectiveness, and inform strategy
  • Provide regular reports to the College’s administrative team, highlighting key partnerships, communication timelines, and emerging needs.
  • Lead special projects and initiatives on behalf of the College President.
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move or drive to other locations on and off campus
  • This position may require occasional travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Duties indoors and some outdoors
  • General office, college, and instruction facilities
  • Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College, Midland College Foundation or community events

Pay Statement

Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
