College and Area Information:
Eastern Arizona College’s District Offices are located in Thatcher, Arizona, a beautiful rural area with easy access to arid
as well as mountainous recreation. The College is located approximately 125 miles northeast of Tucson and 165 miles
southeast of Phoenix. EAC is a comprehensive community college offering five associate degrees across nearly 50
programs of study. Eastern Arizona College is the oldest member of the Arizona Community College system and is fully
accredited by The Higher Learning Commission.
Position Summary and Organizational Relationship:
Adjunct instructor to teach MUS 155 and MUS 255 (Class Piano I and III) for the Fall 2024 semester. The course helps
students meet the music major piano proficiency requirements and will cover essential piano skills including technique,
sight-reading, scales, improvisation, harmonization, and basic keyboard harmony. This position reports to the Director of
Fine Arts.
Required Qualifications:
• Experience teaching piano to teenagers and adults.
• Competence with piano skills and performance.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Willing and able to teach late afternoon, and evening as needed
• Ability to work well within a departmental structure and with other faculty in the design and implementation of
competency-based curriculum and assessment protocols
• Experience using computers for supplemental and mediated instruction
• Ability to teach in both a face-to-face and an online learning environment
Preferred Qualifications:
• Evidence of successful music teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level, or equivalent
professional experience.
• Master’s degree or higher in music or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated proficiency in piano performance and pedagogy.
• Online instructional experience.
• Demonstrated recent participation in professional development activities
• A clear understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and goals of a community college.
Essential Functions:
• Teach required piano proficiency skills sequence to music majors including technique, sight-reading, scales,
improvisation, harmonization, basic keyboard harmony, and repertoire studies.
• Provide constructive feedback and support to students.
• Assess student performance and proficiency according to course and department standards.
• Attend meetings for part-time instructors on the Thatcher campus
• Check and respond to EAC emails daily
• Use Canvas LMS for course materials and grade book
• Use EAC syllabus template to design and submit a course syllabus each semester
• Conduct course-level learning assessments and submit the data to the Fine Arts office

Compensation and Position Availability:
