Essential Job Duties

Position will provide detailed financial analysis and forecasting for the department. Athletics is a fully self-supporting auxiliary with revenue receipts from various external sources that are sensitive to changes in consumer spending and external inflationary increases. Assist with annual preparation of budget of over $115 million. Work with the various programs and units to collect and report data for budget revenue and expense projections, and monthly budget variances. Will meet as needed to discuss and advise budget managers. Will assist with the expense tracking of large capital facility projects.

Must be able to assess the validity, integrity, and accuracy of financial information. Will collect and develop complex data, provide comparative analysis for existing and emerging issues pertaining to Athletics and make recommendations and conclusions. Many of these reports and presentations must be provided quickly due to the fluid nature of Athletics. This data will be used for decision making by the Athletics Director, Executive Staff team, and University Financial Officers. Will complete documentation and explanation for the annual external audit.

Financial Analyst will prepare monthly financial statements for Athletics operations and capital funds. Position will prepare the annual U.S. Federal Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act and NCAA Financial reports. Will prepare other reports and collect data as requested by the Atlantic Coast Conference, Athletics department, University, and the State of North Carolina UNC System Office. Will collect and prepare documentation for the annual external audit for Athletics. This position will assist the Athletics CFO, Athletic Director and department in analytic projects as assigned and provide reports for Freedom of Information Act requests from the national media and other external sources.

Serves as Athletics representative at University and Atlantic Coast Conference meetings. Collaborates with University partners, Conference University institutions, and the NC State Student Aid Association booster club. Must possess knowledge of technical accounting, including financial analysis and reporting of financial data. Understanding and experience in accounting methods and generally accepted accounting principles are needed to perform duties. Knowledge of, as well as the ability to apply and remain current with the laws, regulations and practices set forth by the Department, University, State of North Carolina, Atlantic Coast Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Minimum Education and Experience

Require post-baccalaureate credentials plus 1-2 years experience; a bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of technical accounting, including financial analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Understanding and experience in accounting methods and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Must be skilled in a variety of technology, financial systems, and software to create and maintain data for the office and the department.
  • Intermediate to advanced level knowledge of Microsoft Excel (or similar software) and ability to develop and use functions for moderately complex spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to use database management software.
  • Must be able to present data in clear and concise manner, and be effective at communicating orally and in writing technical financial data to audiences with varying backgrounds of financial knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in PeopleSoft Financial Software and familiarity with queries, or similar software.
  • Prefer 2-4 years experience in an Athletics Business Office.
  • Degree(s) in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Knowledge of, as well as the ability to apply and remain current with the laws, regulations and practices set forth by the Department, University, State of North Carolina, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
