Job Description

Notre Dame Athletics is committed to building a diverse workforce passionate about maximizing the student-athlete experience. Our pillars of Education; Excellence; Faith; Tradition; and Community guide us in the work we do each day. We are eager to attract, recruit, and retain individuals who positively contribute to a collaborative, inclusive working environment where all may thrive.

Building on the University’s Spirit of Inclusion, we are committed to the work needed to cultivate sustainable progress and change. As a prospective member of Notre Dame Athletics, we encourage you to apply if you embrace, embody, and demonstrate a commitment to the aforementioned values.

As a member of the athletics communications staff, the individual directs and oversees content creation, aggregation and distribution as a primary contact for assigned sports teams – women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis and softball – while also playing a support role for other athletic teams when required. You will manage your team’s social media accounts, creating engaging, in-moment content to connect fans with the student-athletes, coaches, and teams while being a resource to your student-athletes, educating them on the media landscape, social media and traditional media perception.

Present at events, you will be the primary contact between your assigned programs and Fighting Irish Media. You will manage the press box, media requests and interview opportunities for your student-athletes and coaches. As an expert in content creation and consumption behaviors, you will know how best to connect the stories your student-athletes are excited to help tell with the audience that craves their authentic voice.

Responsibilities:
  • The individual is responsible for aggregating information, generating stories, creating unique social media posts and digital media content based on team competitive success, student-athletes, coaches and other related topics to inform and engage Notre Dame fans, particularly with time-sensitive information. Stories may be articles/website posts, video, podcasts, social media content, graphics and other innovative media over multiple platforms.
  • The individual is responsible for producing news and information for fans, digital and major media by posting and pitching stories, updating statistics/maintaining historical records and writing releases for broad distribution over multiple digital platforms.
  • Game day responsibilities include managing press box operations for assigned sports, media materials and media requirements, creating engaging content (i.e. behind the scenes video etc.) for fans on social media, writing stories.
  • Other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, promoting content and seeking opportunities to monetize content.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (4 years)
  • 2 years experience with athletic communication or within a collegiate environment strongly preferred
  • Be an experienced and outstanding communicator with experience in public relations, social media, writing, a familiarity with shooting photos or short videos (or a willingness to be trained)
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Design Suite (i.e. InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
  • Experience in a collegiate and/or professional communications/content creation role desired, including managing media and statistics (StatCrew or Genius)
  • Understanding of and compliance with NCAA, ACC and ND rules and regulations is imperative
