Manager - Planning and Service Order Team (Hybrid Schedule)

Primary Purpose:

Leads and directs the work of the organization responsible for the initiation, planning, design, and end-to-end management of all property-owner, developer, high-impact customer and municipality originated distribution construction projects. Leads and directs the work of more than 100 employees and supporting contractors who are responsible for a total average annual number of projects and portfolio value exceeding 2500 projects and $150M estimated capital spend. Projects span small residential construction to large, multi-year undertakings with average annual individual project costs exceeding $12M.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads and directs the DPM Design and Project Planning organization. Establishes, aligns, communicates, manages and drives achievement of organizational direction, operational goals and performance targets. Directs and drives on-going and meaningful improvements in operational efficiency and performance. Prepares and manages organizational budgets and investments. Encourages aggressive and robust management of projects to achieve customer and SDG&E objectives. Promotes and leads as appropriate, collaboration and efficient integration with customers, municipalities, construction and internal stakeholders.
  • Sets direction and tone of the organization's operation and directs management of work to foster workforce engagement, develop and enhance workforce and organizational capability and attract, sustain and retain talent needed to deliver the business outcomes of the Design and Project Planning organization. Coaches, mentors and provides business, career and development guidance to D&PP leaders and resources.
  • Provides required rate, tariff, rule, regulation and technical direction to D&PP staff to ensure proper application to construction orders and customer accounts. Oversees personnel engaged in negotiations with customers to explain and interpret Company procedures, policies and regulations. Manages company's formal response to lawsuits, audits, and CPUC inquiries resulting from customer complaints involving compliance regulations governing additions or modifications to company gas and electric facilities. Represents the company to various public and professional organizations.
  • Partners with Capital Portfolio management to identify, forecast, set, manage and deliver projects, and manage required resources and investments. Contributes to the development of appropriate standards, units of measure, key performance indicators for the management of customer-initiated projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Hybrid Schedule:

  • Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, management, engineering or design and construction related field; or a bachelor's degree in other fields accompanied by directly related and comparable work experience, or equivalent training/experience.
  • Proficiency in written and oral communications normally acquired through college level courses required.
  • 10 years - directly related, comparable and progressive experience in the management of planning, design and construction projects including a minimum of two years in a managerial role.
  • Experience in contract administration and negotiations is required.
  • Requires proficiency in business practices, design and construction applications normally acquired through practical experience and training courses.
  • Requires strong leadership and interpersonal skills in working with customers, employees and others internal and external to the company.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree.
  • 5 years - Planning, design and/or construction of distribution facilities.
