Job Description

The Montgomery College Rockville Campus, is currently accepting applications for possible openings as a part-time faculty member teaching Automotive Technology.  We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.

  • The listing of a course in the schedule of classes as “TBA” does not constitute an assignment.
  • The hiring decision for part-time faculty involves an academic judgment and shall be determined at Management’s sole discretion.
  • During the academic year part-time faculty at Montgomery College may teach no more than 11.5 ESH (equivalent semester hour) per semester and no more than 23 ESH per academic year.
  • During summer part-time faculty at Montgomery College may teach no more than 10 ESH (equivalent semester hour) for both sessions combined.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach assigned Automotive courses. Lecture, Discussion and/or Laboratory sections.
  • Planning and preparing (development of instructional material, preparation of course syllabi, course assignments, exams, etc.) presentation and coordination of classroom and laboratory instruction and related activities.
  • Teach a varied schedule of courses on campus which may include day, night, weekend, and/or accelerated sections.  Opportunities may exist to teach summer session classes.
  • Teach a variety of modalities, on campus courses, on-line courses, blended courses (on-line and on-campus) courses.
  • Blended courses use Blackboard for the (Remote -Online) section of the course, knowing, learning how to work in this on-line environment is a must.
  • Follow guidelines from department course coordinators/faculty to ensure consistent content coverage and student experience across multiple sections of a course.
  • Preparation and forethought are KEY prior to class as an instructor. Prep time is spent outside of the classroom and is a must for success in the classroom. This outside of class prep time is part of the job.
  • Instructors are responsible for providing a set curriculum content for each course based on course descriptions, program/college academic structure and National ASE Certification Standards.  The MC Automotive Program is a Master ASE Certified Program.
  • Administer, grade and provide feedback in a timely manner to monitor student mastery and progress through a course.
  • Meet college-established deadlines to submit student mid-term and final course grades. 

Required Qualifications:

  • AAS in Automotive Technology or the equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • One year work experience in an automotive shop as a technician repairing vehicles.
  • ASE Automobile Technician Certification (G-1, A-6).
  • If no AAS Degree in Automotive Technology, then two years work experience in an automotive shop as a technician repairing vehicles.
  • Ability to teach in a multi-cultural setting.

  • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus) *.  Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools.  *If you do not have access to a personal computer, please notify the department chair at the time of interview. Subject to available funds, the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous Automotive teaching experience, in an educational setting/facility.
  • Course Management/Development experience.
  • Experience organizing/preparing automotive laboratory practical student instruction.
  • Experience guiding student lab assignments using various automotive equipment.
  • Ability to speak Spanish fluently/translate technical Automotive terms -English/Spanish.
  • Experience repairing/preparing vehicles in an educational setting/facility-Lab.
  • EPA 609 Refrigerant Handling Certification.
  • Master ASE Automobile Technician Certification (A-1 through A-8).
  • Experience and Skills using Zoom, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Blackboard.
  • Experience and Skills using AllData, Mitchell Pro-Demand, Identifix.
