Full-time Instructor, Sociology (Tenure Track)
 
Overview:
The Humanities and Sciences Division at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track teaching position in Sociology. The successful candidate will teach college-level Sociology courses to students in our technical, transfer degree, and non-degree programs, both online and in-person.
 
As part of our team of highly qualified faculty, Sociology Instructors are expected to provide high quality instruction, work with our faculty and Administrative staff to improve student learning experiences, and be committed to the mission and values of the College. Job duties include no research responsibilities.
 
 
General Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the instructor and course keeper for all Sociology courses
  • Participate in Sociology curriculum development and review, including alignment with Ohio Department of Higher Education standards for transfer coursework (OT36)
  • Support the mission of the College, Division, and Social and Behavioral Sciences Department
  • Participate in curriculum development, oversight, assessment, and continuous improvement of Sociology offerings
  • Engage in committee work and College-wide service
  • Engage in professional development to stay current on the latest effective teaching practices and procedures
  • Be available to teach day, evening, weekend, and online classes at Cincinnati State’s Clifton campuses, as well as the satellite campuses located in Hamilton and Butler Counties
  • Fulfill other responsibilities of tenure-track faculty members
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Specific Duties:
  • Deliver learner-centered instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning, student involvement, and student success and by providing timely feedback to students
  • Provide each student with a syllabus that outlines student learning outcomes, clear course expectations, evaluations, topical outlines, and timelines
  • Prepare all course materials and lessons
  • Utilize applicable software and technologies related to course topics
  • Develop real-life learning activities that align with the learning outcomes defined in the Department’s standardized syllabi
  • Serve as faculty facilitator for the college’s CCP (Ohio's high school dual enrollment program) offerings in the Sociology department
  • Submit student grades, and administrative reports, and conduct other required record-keeping in a thorough and timely manner
  • Maintain office hours in accordance with the Humanities and Sciences Division’s policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Attend College, Departmental, and Divisional meetings
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Sociology or Master’s degree in a related field with 18 cohesive hours of graduate-level Sociology course work
  • A minimum of one year of College-level teaching experience at a regionally accredited institution. (Experience as a teaching or research assistant does not meet this qualification)
  • Experience with or ability to learn and use the College’s Learning Management System (i.e. Blackboard or similar)
  • Experience in curriculum development
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three years of College-level Sociology teaching experience (teaching or research assistant experience does not meet this qualification)
  • Experience teaching in a two-year technical or community college
  • Experience teaching and developing online instruction

All candidates invited to interview will be required to present a teaching demonstration. A topic will be provided prior to the interview.
This position includes required on-site responsibilities. On-site responsibilities may take place at any of the College campuses located in Cincinnati (Clifton), Harrison, Middletown and/or Evendale.
