Position Summary

The Housekeep is responsible for the cleanliness and orderliness of the facility and property of the programs at Door of Hope. This position ensures the facility is properly cleaned, occupancy is consistent, and health & safety standards of The Salvation Army and regulatory bodies are met. The ability to follow strict disinfecting and cleaning standards to prevent transmission of communicable diseases is required.

Essential Functions

  • Remove trash from units, offices, and community spaces.
  • Dust and clean surfaces including furnishings, walls, floors, and windows.
  • Monitor and maintain cleaning supply inventory.
  • Clean public bathrooms and replenish supplies.
  • Provide sanitary upkeep to common areas and administrative areas.
  • Set up for meetings and special events, as assigned.
  • Provide cleaning for unit turnover and program occupancy.
  • Maintain system for communication and timelines for cleaning projects.
  • Participate in relevant trainings, as assigned.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift to 40lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate mop, floor buffer, vacuum, carpet cleaner, and general cleaning solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to life up to 40 pounds, climb, bend, scrub, and clean.
  • Ability to work with little supervision.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must pass background check prior to hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification within 30 days of hire.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Must have functional proficiency of the English language in reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism and remain non-judgemental in sensitive spaces.
  • Must possess understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of the homeless population.
  • Must possess knowledge of cleaning solutions, chemicals, and cleaning processes.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with other staff members and participants to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Must be able to mult-task be organized and pay attention to various details.
  • Must possess a high level of cultural awareness, competency and responsiveness.
  • Must maintain a non-judgmental attitude in working with diverse populations.
  • Must demonstrate strong initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Must utilize trauma informed practices when engaging with residents.
  • Must be able to safely operate and utilize protection gear.
  • Must demonstrate maturity and maintain confidentiality of information accessed during work.
