Position Purpose:

The Senior Manager, Consumer and Market Insights, is a lead strategic partner for key Petco functions including, but not limited to Merchandising, Marketing and Ecommerce. This individual is responsible for providing insights into the pet parents, Petco customer, competition and marketplace. Critically, in partnership with cross-functional teams, translating those insights into actionable merchandising, marketing and innovation strategies and initiatives. Expert proficiency in custom market research, syndicated data analysis, and secondary research resources is required to create relevant insights plans and leverage all tools at your disposal to inform business recommendations. This role reports to the Senior Director, CMI and has 2 direct reports.

This individual is the go-to thought partner for their business areas who brings value through insights, strategic thinking and creative problem solving.

Specific Duties Include:

The CMI team lead and key contact point for Petco partner teams to deliver actionable customer and consumer insights & analysis to support merchants, marketing, ecommerce, & operations teams. Develop annual & ongoing consumer insights plans that assist in solving complex business issues and drive continuous improvement in key customer metrics: retention, acquisition, conversion, cross selling, customer migration, lifetime value, etc. Build learning plans in support of known business initiatives and to inspire future business-building opportunities. Synthesize and integrate consumer/marketplace insights to inform current issues, opportunities and business challenges. Enable fact-based decision-making by being a strong voice that advocates for the consumer and creatively solves for what is possible within business realities. Play an active role on cross-functional teams related to brand strategy, marketing communications, innovation, and customer activation. Work directly with key stakeholders on topics covering all areas of the business, including product innovation, category & shopper insights, channel & market performance, segmentation, brand positioning & awareness and store design.

  • Manage project execution including identification of optimal methodology, outlining project plan, anticipating potential executional issues and coordinating resources to deliver project in most high quality, timely manner.

  • Utilize secondary research sources such as Nielsen, IRI, Numerator and Euromonitor to provide analyses and understanding of Petco's business performance.

  • Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communications with internal partners and external vendors. Key focus on storytelling, creativity and bringing insights to life in a relatable, straightforward manner.

  • Prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes and in accordance with business needs to ensure projects are executed in a timely manner. Manage and mentor 2 direct reports.

Nature of Supervision:

The Partner will be expected to work autonomously from the inception of an insights project to results presentation with guidance where necessary.

Education and Experience:

Requires a bachelor's degree, preferably in Marketing, Data Analytics, or Social Sciences (Anthropology, Economics, Psychology or Sociology). MBA or other advanced degree preferred. Requires 10 years of work experience in related fields (e.g. consumer insights, customer analytics). "Client" side experience is most preferable. Must have in-depth experience creating effective research plans and insights storytelling and ability to work with multiple resources to ensure adherence to scope & project timelines. A minimum of 10 years of experience in the following is also required:

  • Desire/ability to contribute and influence across levels and functions.

  • Creativity, innovation, initiative, follow-through, communication, and priority-setting.

  • Leadership through envisioning, direction setting and enrolling others, and thinking/problem solving.

  • Strong analytical skills using multiple data sources. A statistical qualification is not required, but comfort with data analysis is essential.

  • Excellent verbal presentation and written communication skills are required including the ability to provide support and share findings with internal partners.

  • Research experience in a retail organization is a strong plus.

  • Advanced Excel skills (pivots, lookups, macros, dashboards, etc.) a plus.

  • Survey Design - Experience designing surveys.

Work Environment:

Most tasks are performed while seated indoors at a personal computer. Limited travel to vendors, seminars and/or conferences may be required periodically throughout the year.

Contacts:

Interaction with numerous internal departments including but not limited to Marketing, Analytical Services, Merchandising, Creative and E-Commerce; may range from the routine exchange of information to the analyses, evaluation and resolution of complex logistical issues. Externally, the position will deal with research vendors, advertising agencies and product/service vendors usually exchanging information, providing instruction, or resolving somewhat complex problems.

$127,300.00 - $190,900.00
