Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia – principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. Our scenic campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. We are one of 23 community colleges in Virginia that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).

Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Development (VPIAD), the Director of Development (DD) will support the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy for the PVCC Educational Foundation (PVCCEF) and plays an important front-line fundraising role.
The DD will be a key member of the IAD team and will support the VPIAD in creating a strategic plan of action and evaluation for maintaining a donor pipeline. These efforts include the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts prospects including corporate and foundation leaders, key alumni, and friends of the College in support of PVCC’s fundraising priorities and programmatic initiatives. The position will help implement planned and annual giving activities, interface with individual and corporate donors, and establish a continuum between annual, major and planned giving donors.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Help PVCCEF donors accomplish their philanthropic goals through relationships with Piedmont Virginia Community College.
  • Work closely with VPIAD on strategy and implementation of major giving, annual giving, corporate giving, and planned giving programs.
  • Support the development and implementation of innovative fundraising strategies to expand funding for the College’s key strategic priorities.
  • Manage a select portfolio that includes current and previous donors, new prospects, and high-level prospects and donors capable of giving at major gift levels.
  • Report to donors the impact of their gifts through fund reports, scholarship programs and other written donor information through comprehensive and integrated stewardship reporting.
  • Monitor progress toward fundraising goals and move agreed upon number of prospects, annually, through identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Establish and/or expand corporate and foundation partnerships.
  • Support special activities and “mini campaigns” involving appropriate constituents when necessary and appropriate.
  • Support the development of digital and printed philanthropic publications.
  • Planning and coordinating special events recognizing donors to various giving clubs and giving societies (Scholarship Donors, President’s Society, Carpenter’s Society).
  • Maintain and provide regular/accurate reports of annual, leadership, major, and planned gift activities.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of PVCC programs, strategic priorities, and its administrative and financial organization.
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Media Relations team to develop marketing campaigns to advance fundraising and improve PVCCEF’s overall visibility and identity with donors.
  • Produces monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on giving and donor engagement.
  • Participates in college-wide committees as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience in fundraising in higher education, non-profit administration, sales, or comparable experience
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and budgeting functions
  • Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers and various constituents
  • Excellent customer service skills to include the ability to effectively follow up and follow through.
  • Detail-oriented with strong Internet usage skills and proficient in use in knowledge and use of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and successfully meet guidelines and manage multiple projects.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • Fundraising experience in higher education
  • Proven ability to create, foster and grow client/donor relationships
  • Proven record of closing major and planned gifts of $25,000+
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising, including annual, major, and planned gifts
  • Ability to serve as a strong, outward facing representative of PVCC, translating the mission, vision and values of the institution to various internal and external constituencies.
  • Experience in the use of digital and social media to enhance messaging, build connection and create advocacy for institutional goals and priorities
  • Experience in advancement data management, stewardship programs and constituent research programs
  • Working knowledge of Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge and RENXT
