Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

UMD’s Security, Privacy, Audit/Assessment, and Compliance Services (SPARCS) team is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented graduate student to join our IT team as a Graduate Assistant specializing in IT communications, Policy review/development, and Training, and Awareness initiatives within the SPARCS domains. In this role, you will play a crucial part in reviewing policy and legal documents, providing insightful interpretations, and drafting guidance, internal communications, and training materials. You will also facilitate training sessions to ensure effective and widespread awareness of and participation in SPARCS initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Must be enrolled in a University of Maryland, College Park graduate program.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University.

Experience:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with IT concepts.
  • Experience with policy and/or legal document review
  • Proficiency in multimedia content creation tools.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of training materials and communications.
  • High attention to detail when creating training materials to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • Thoroughness in reviewing and editing communications to maintain a professional and polished image.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Completed internship involving IT training, communications, or awareness activities
  • Experience with drafting documentation, policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Experience in conducting training sessions, workshops, or webinars for end-users and stakeholders.
  • Understanding of instructional design principles and experience creating training materials.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and stay updated on technological advancements.
  • Proven ability to foster a positive and collaborative learning environment that motivates individuals to actively participate in training sessions.

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift and small carry parcels, packages and other items, to walk short distances, and drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials
