Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Payroll and Human Resources Coordinator position is responsible for the coordination of a subset of payroll and related human resources processes of the department. This includes coordinating the dissemination of information concerning payroll transactions, processing appointments, creating contracts, and processing of work authorization/VISA documentation. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the maintenance of department reflectors, building access and key distribution. Working with Payroll coordinator and Director will develop, implement and document standard operating procedures and communicate relevant university policies and procedures to members of department. Position also serves as backup departmental liaison to College (CMNS) on payroll issues; University Human Resources Benefits office and Office of International Student Services.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelors degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. 

Experience:
  • An additional three years or more of related experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Self-starter who takes direction well, but can also work independently. 
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituents, including but not limited to university officials, staff, faculty, students, and visitors. 
  • Ability to manage high volume workload with many interruptions , maintaining a pleasant demeanor. 
  • Close attention to detail and mathematical abilities. 
  • Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Experience in a University setting highly desirable. 
  • Knowledge of hiring policies preferred and familiarity with UMCP current HR systems, which includes e-terp, position management, PHR, I-9/E-verify/Glacier and E-terp. 
  • Workday experience also desirable..

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary position involving extensive viewing of computer screens. Repetitive typing motions involved. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The worker is required to have close visual acuity in order to prepare, analyze, and read frequently from a computer screen.
