The Primary responsibility of this individual is to provide quality instruction to Western Wyoming Community College (Western) students enrolled in musical theatre and dance courses taught at the main campus in Rock Springs and the Green River Center and to direct main stage productions. This individual may also be asked to be musical director, choreographer (dance, fights, or period movement) or other roles depending on qualifications and the departments needs. Teaching courses over a distance education medium, such as online, hybrid, or video may also be expected.

This position has teaching and production responsibilities. The typical teaching load for this position is 18-21 credit hours per academic year. The production portion of this position will entail full direction and oversight of the production process and the teaching of theatre practice; this is for 1-2 shows each year.

This individual is expected to accomplish assigned duties efficiently, effectively, and competently, and strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public throughout Westerns service area. This individual must follow all college policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines as they relate to this position.
 
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE
 
1. Provides quality instruction to students in various courses in musical theatre, acting, and dance. Other courses may be developed to fit the successful candidates expertise and program demand as approved by the School Chair.
2. Provides quality learning opportunities for all students in accordance with their needs and abilities while maintaining the basic integrity of the courses standards and objectives. Instruct, assist, and motivate students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed substantive feedback on assignments and discussions.
3. Follows department objectives and criteria for each course, follows the Curriculum Committees guidelines regarding course syllabi, and evaluates students performance considering these objectives and criteria.
4. Advises students clearly and effectively; learns the requirements for Western graduation and for transfer to other regional colleges and universities.
5. Maintains an appropriate schedule of office hours that allows on-campus and distance education students to interact and ask questions.
6. Oversee adjunct instructors, part time staff, and student workers for musical theatre
7. Management of musical theatre department budget, scholarships, and student workers.
8. Develops good working relationships with professionals in this discipline in the Colleges service area to solicit cooperation and support for curricular planning, recruitment, and other functions.
 
Other Related Duties
1. Works with the School Chair to develop an individual professional development plan that will be of mutual benefit to the individual and to Western; and completes all elements of Faculty Evaluation Plan.
2. Assists the School Chair in all school and department activities as requested including attending school meetings, completing school and department duties and paperwork, and by participating in program review, assessment, and other departmental activities.
3. Stays current by attending conferences, seminars and workshops, and by reading appropriate professional literature.
4. Learns to communicate clearly and effectively using the college network system, including the e-mail system, word processing, and the advising modules; integrates learning with technology into the classroom as appropriate.
5. Assists in the Colleges student recruitment program by cooperating with the Director of Admissions, visiting area schools, encouraging students to attend Western, and promoting the value of the college; assists in updating the departments web pages.
6. Interacts with professionals in this discipline in the Colleges service area to solicit cooperation and support for curricular planning and other functions; serves as a resource to the community by being willing to speak to groups, answer specific inquiries, assist with research projects and workshops, locate information, and perform other related tasks.
7. Refers students to the resources in the College Learning Center, Peer Tutor Center, Library, and Wellness and Accessibility.
8. Assists in developing a well-rounded, usable library collection in his/her discipline; teaches the proper use of library and Internet resources.
9. Assists part-time instructors to maintain quality instruction consistent with the expectations and standards of the full-time faculty and the School Chair; interacts with adjuncts assigned by the Chair via e-mail or phone; reviews applications of adjunct faculty.
10. Becomes familiar with the budgeting process of the college and limits departmental expenditures to budgeted levels.
11. Maintains an inventory of all assigned equipment and supplies in office and other assigned areas; takes prudent efforts to safeguard Western physical resources from unauthorized use. Maintains safe working conditions and practices.
12. Optional summer employment as a producer of youth theatre with county cooperative educational program.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
 
1. Master of Fine Arts Degree in musical theatre or theatre OR a Masters degree in musical theatre, theatre, or related subject with 18 graduate credits in theatre or dance.
or Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree or a Bachelors degree in musical theatre or theatre with a minimum of 5 years professional experience
2. Experience in directing main stage productions and choreography
3. Two years of teaching experience at the college level substantiated by excellent student evaluations and/or letters of recommendation.
4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and administrators.
5. Ability to exercise sound judgment in all facets of the student-teacher relationship and to teach a diverse group of community college students.
6. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
7. Evidence of continued professional development.

Equivalency Statement
For those who do not exactly meet all the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities may be acceptable.
 
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Abilities, Education and Experience)
1. Experience using active approaches to learning; experience using alternative methods of learning, such as interactive software, Internet, or individualized modular programs.
2. Active participation in relevant professional organizations such as Screen Actors Guild and Actors Equity.
3. Demonstrated teaching excellence at a community college.
