Clackamas Community College (CCC) at the Oregon City, Oregon campus seeks to hire a full-time permanent Instructor position in our Communication, Theater Arts, and Journalism starting in fall 2024. We are interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and candidates that may be from a less traditional background. Division and Department:

The Arts and Sciences Division

Clackamas Community College's Arts and Sciences Division is one of four Instructional and Student Support divisions. These four divisions are:

(1) Academic Foundations and Connections (AFAC)

(2) Arts and Sciences (A&S)

(3) Institutional Effectiveness and Planning (IEP)

(4) Technology, Applied Science and Public Services (TAPS)

The Arts and Sciences Division includes these nine departments: Art; Business & Computer Science; Communication, Theater Arts & Journalism; Horticulture; Music; Science; Social Sciences; Water Engineering Technology; and World Languages. Our divisional focus is to work collaboratively to serve our students.

The Communication, Theater Arts and Journalism (COTA) Department

The COTA Department includes Communication Studies, Performing Arts/Theatre, and Journalism. CCC offers Communication Studies courses for all Educational Focus Areas. We seek a skilled student-centered teacher and collaborative department colleague who brings an equity and growth mindset to their work.

Our strategic priorities include diversity, equity, inclusion, and excellence in teaching and learning; we are looking for an additional faculty member who is committed to furthering our work in these areas and contributing to the overall continuous improvement processes of the Department and College.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Instruction

  • Teach college-level courses in Communication Studies, including but not limited to: Comm-100Z (Intro to Communication), Comm-111Z (Public Speaking), Comm-218Z (Interpersonal Communication), and Comm courses offered through our high school partnerships.
  • Prepares and develops materials for assigned classes.
  • Posts and maintains office hours.
  • Maintains records of grades and attendance; reports individual academic grades when required.
  • Delivers instruction in a variety of modalities to meet program and student needs, including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online. Assignments could include day, evening, and weekend classes at a variety of locations.
  • Develop courses, curricula, and programs to meet student, industry and institutional needs.
  • Use of college management and instructional systems and applications including Outlook, Moodle, Zoom, etc.
  • Participate in the compilation of data for routine reports as required by the College.
  • Communicates regularly to students about their progress and responding to student inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Consults with students about their course, program, resources at the college, and potential careers.
  • Actively participates in assessment processes, and updating courses and curriculum based on assessment results, curriculum review cycles, or externally mandated changes in programs.
  • Attends and participates in department, division, and College meetings, and committee concerns.
  • Participates in staff development, community services, and project development.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

1A Master's degree in communication studies or a related field with at least 30 graduate credit hours (quarter basis) in communication coursework from an accredited institution. AND

2. One year full-time (or equivalent in part-time hours) teaching experience in communication studies or related field. (A portion of the required teaching experience may be met by substantial graduate school TA experience)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience with a diverse student body like that found in a community college.
  • Experience with distance learning, including software such as Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, etc.
  • Experience designing and updating course curriculum.
  • Evidence of innovative and diverse teaching methods and technologies to support teaching and learning in a dynamic educational environment.
  • Experience with student-centered evaluation and equitable student learning outcome assessment practice.
  • Effective classroom management, including facilitating and navigating challenging conversations.
  • Experience collaborating with staff and faculty across a variety of disciplines.

Physical Demands of the Position:

The position requires minimal (5-20%) physical effort such as lifting, carrying, or movement, etc. Movements required to complete work are not difficult, and only require some degree of agility and hand eye coordination.

Working Conditions:

The work environment is usually well-protected, with minimal hazards or obstacles (5-20%). There is little or minimal element of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are usually comfortable, with minimal (5-20%) issues of confinement, temperature change, incident of noise, or interactions of a disagreeable nature, inside/outside work, dirty conditions, exposure to contagious disease, etc. Position may have minimal responsibility for driving.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel and may assign work to student workers.

Works under the general direction of the Dean of Arts & Sciences.

Additional Information:

The successful candidate in this position will work a 10-month contract and be paid for 175 days including six (6) paid holidays, per the Full-Time Faculty Bargaining Agreement.

Starting Salary Expectations:

Initial Salary Placement will be Step 3 ($77,041 annually) per the CCC Full-time Faculty bargaining agreement.

Benefits:

  • CCC offers a comprehensive benefit package designed to provide employees and their families, including domestic partners, with access to a broad range of benefit options. Includes Health, Dental, and Vision options, Group Life, Long-term Disability, and Long-term Care Insurance programs.
  • CCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. CCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.
  • CCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at CCC for yourself, domestic partner, and IRS dependents; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions. CCC qualifies as a public employer under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.



Terms of Employment:

  • All positions at CCC are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends.
  • Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials from a regionally accredited institutions, or the equivalent, as recognized by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) or National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
  • Your official transcripts will need to be sent from the Registrar of your degree granting institution within 30-days of your hire.
  • Employees must maintain Metro Portland, OR or Vancouver, WA residency as a condition of employment.
  • CCC does not support employment visas.
