Another Source's client, San Diego State University, is recruiting a University Bursar to join their team onsite in San Diego, California. This is a unique opportunity to leverage strong strategic leadership and exceptional customer service skills to elevate the overall student experience.

Here's a little about San Diego State University Bursar's Office and the position they are recruiting for:

The University Bursar's Office is a customer service-oriented group that interacts with students regularly. The University Bursar is responsible for university cashiering operations, student billing and collections, the student direct deposit process, campus fee reporting and reconciliation and check printing. Collections and a portion of the fiscal recordkeeping for various loan programs also fall under the University Bursar's office's responsibility. The University Bursar is also the liaison with the Student Financial Center and the Financial Aid Office, which all work together to ensure our students' financial transactions are properly processed.

The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is: $110,000- 120,000

What you will be doing:

In your capacity as the University Bursar, you'll be leading a dynamic team of eighteen, responsible for overseeing cashiering, student billing, and collections. Your role also encompasses the management of the SDSU Card Office, and you'll actively collaborate with the Student Financial Center to ensure a seamless and positive experience for students.

How you will be spending your time:

    Manage, lead, and inspire the University Bursar's Office team, including mentoring, goal setting and monitoring, honest and clear regular feedback, career development, and coaching.
  • Represent the University Bursar's Office at meetings and on committees within the institution and at outside events. Act as a liaison to departments in the University. Coordinate with offices on campus for cashiering and other student account-related services. Maintain close communication with the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, Student Financial Center, and Enrollment Services.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Student Financial Center to facilitate a one-stop shop experience for students and parents.
  • In conjunction with the managers/lead staff in the University Bursar's Office and other colleagues, develop and document policy and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Ensure that main cashiering and the satellite cashiering areas are complying with PCI Security standards along with campus policies and procedures related to cashiering, acceptance of credit cards, record retention, area security, etc. to safeguard funds collected.
  • Oversee student billing/statement/disbursement/collection processes, and Installment Plan Programs for Tuition and Fees.
  • Work with Vendors and campus departments when new money-handling processes or collections are developed. Serve as the contact for the bank or other vendors on problems related to cashiering operations and deposits. Investigate issues with Credit card processors or banks when problems occur.
  • Oversee Transact, ASCOT, PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, and ECSI system problem resolution.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of progressively responsible duties within an office environment, including at least 2 years that includes supervision and training of employees.
  • Experience in a customer service environment.
  • Working knowledge of common software systems and databases.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial record-keeping methods, cash-handling protocol, collection procedures, and other financial practices that would apply to this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in business administration, Public Administration or related field.
  • Knowledge and understanding of public higher education or similar environment.
  • Experience using integrated enterprise cash receipt and accounts receivable/customer account software or similar system.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft.
