Description Summary

 

The Dean of Student Services provides leadership in recruitment, admissions, advising, retention, career services, financial aid, and student records at Iowa Central Community College. This leader will ensure that Iowa Central meets its enrollment goals and delivers positive, student-centered services to all prospective and current students. The Dean leads the integrated delivery of enrollment services including outreach and recruitment, admissions, advising, orientation, and retention initiatives. The Dean serves as a key Student Services Division leader charged with delivering service excellence and actively contributing to institution-wide enrollment, retention, persistence, and completion efforts. Collaboration with other departments and divisions college-wide will be a focus of the Dean. This leader will be expected to incorporate higher education and community college best practices into the vision, strategy, and practices of the departments.

 

Examples of Duties

Constant (67-100%)


  • Leads Admissions, Advising, Career Services, Financial Aid, and Student Records departments, ensuring processes, policies, technology, and other resources necessary to ensure department and institutional goals are met.
  • Provide direction, supervision, and evaluation of assigned staff.
  • Create and maintain a cohesive student services team by providing on-going development and cross-training opportunities to staff and departments.
  • Maintains knowledge of best practices, new developments and innovative strategies in community colleges and higher education; recommends changes to maintain relevance of programs and services to meet student and institutional needs.
  • Works with departments to implement and maintain a data tracking and evaluation system to review the progress of students from recruitment through enrollment, retention, and graduation.
  • Maintains general knowledge of departmental processes and procedures to work collaboratively across student services departments.
  • Collaborates across divisions to improve the College’s ability to serve students with intention and excellence.
  • Collaborates with college leadership to ensure consistency with marketing and communication.
  • Works closely with Academic departments to ensure effective scheduling and communication of program information.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.

Frequent (34-66%)
  • Represents the College and department at appropriate meetings, committees, and planning sessions as they relate to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Develops, reviews and revises policies and procedures, making recommendations of change to the Associate Vice-President of Student Services.
  • Identify areas needing immediate attention when it comes to department procedures and success.
  • Assess efficacy of current enrollment strategies on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensures compliance with Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) for all student conduct records contained in the office by supervising the maintenance, security, and proper disclosure of such records.

Occasional (10-33%)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, which will be varied and substantial given the significance of this role within Student Services and the College.
  • Prepares yearly Enrollment Management Plan and distributes to appropriate areas on campus.
  • The Dean of Student Services assumes the responsibilities of the Associate Vice President of Student Services in their absence.

Qualifications

 

Master’s Degree Required or equivalent experience, education or skills that demonstrate your ability to complete the essential duties. Five years of progressively responsible work experience related to the job responsibilities. Must possess excellent communication, customer service and organizational and interpersonal skills. Must be detailed oriented and work as a team member. Must have experience with computerized systems and be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and others.
