Summary of Position

The Human Resources Business Partner role contributes to company performance by providing tactical and strategic consulting on people and organizational development strategies in support of the business objectives. Performs HR related duties at the professional level while supporting more than one functional group. Will carry out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations consultation; policy application, performance management process, organization design and employee initiatives and training support.

Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related business-related field. Five to eight years of HR experience with at least two years of experience as a Generalist and/or HR Business Partner experience. Higher Education experience a plus, along with work experience in a unionized setting preferred. Professional Human Resources certification from SHRM/HRCI or other similar professional organization is also preferred.

Partners with leadership to align HR strategy with business strategy. Acts as change agent to the business through process design and approaches that support change and transformation – striving to lead mutual processes to best practice status.

Primary point of contact for managers and employees to understand HR services delivery model and obtain services.

Employee and Labor Relations
  • Work with leaders and employees to create/sustain a successful work environment.
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues
  • Manages labor relations initiatives
  • Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations, often in conjunction with HR Senior Leadership and Legal Counsel
  • Manage in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Ensures that policies and procedures are followed as needed to resolve certain concerns

Performance Management
  • Oversees and manages all activities related to the performance management cycle, sensitization and monitoring of the process to ensure its effectiveness and relevance to the business needs
  • Develop and communicate the strategic vision, scope, priorities, processes, systems, and tools of the performance management unit
  • Work with Human Resources Information System to ensure the development, enhancement or acquisition of the Information Technology tools needed to support the performance management activities
  • Supports annual HR cycle deliveries to include merit and bonus awards, benefits enrollment, etc.

Additional Duties:
  • Identifies organizational development opportunities and facilitates identification/creation of employee training organization programs – Workforce Planning and Succession Planning
  • Answers employees as needed or connects them with resources within HR that have the expertise to address the needs/concerns
  • Evaluates issues, patterns, and trends to provide insights for HR solution and programs designs i.e., training to address certain needs
  • Champion strategic HR initiatives and programmatic changes and support the engagement with employees and supervisors related to these activities.
