Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Principal Receptionist/Patient Scheduler for the Eric B. Chandler Health Center.
Under general supervision, responsible for answering phones and routing calls, scheduling appointments, greeting and registering patients. Responds to requests and questions from hospitals, patients and referring physician offices. Assists with billing activities. Provides general office support.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Answers questions regarding organization and provides walk-in patients and callers with address, directions and other pertinent information.  
  • Schedules and maintains appointments through the Practice Management scheduling (IDX) program. Assures appointment scheduling is completed in accordance with the criteria of the practice.  Acts as a liaison in scheduling patients from Robert Wood Johnson University (RWJUH) for appointments at the Health Center. 
  • Utilizes computer to process full registration information for new/established patients at every visit. Completes new/established patient’s demographics, emergency contact and insurance information in the Program Management System. Ensures referral is verified where appropriate. All collected information along with required forms will be scanned in the EMR (Electronic Medical Record). 
  • Assists with cash collections/reconciliation.
  • Communicates work-related problems to Assistant Manager, Patient Business Services.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible clerical/general experience, preferably in a physician, hospital or health center setting including receptionist and scheduling duties.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Computer skills and excellent customer service skills. 
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. 
  • Requires working with office equipment and confidential patient records and correspondence. Required to proofread and check documents for accuracy.  
  • Ability to multi-task. 
  • Demonstrated ability to verbally communicate effectively with patient population and faculty staff. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a medical office setting, including some billing.
  • Bi-lingual skills (English/Spanish). 
  • Knowledge of medical terminology. 
  • Candidates having experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Physical Demands:  This position requires standing, walking, use of hands to finger, handle or feel, ability to reach with hands and arms 1/3 of the time; manual dexterity use of keyboard to enter data and video display terminal to receive and send information and data. Ability to talk or hear up to 2/3 of the time and sitting over 2/3 of the time. Must have clear vision at 20 inches or less (close vision). Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs; ability to stoop and bend; ability to reach and grasp objects.  
  • Work Environment:  Moderate noise.
