Position Duties

Summary:
Under the direction of the Dean of Educational Services or applicable administrator, administer and oversee college health career programs. Provide direction and supervision of applicable faculty and staff in the department. Ensure health career programs meet industry and licensing requirements for training and certification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Develop, organize, and administer the Health Career Programs of the College including but not limited to Psychiatric Technician, Nurse Assistant, and other Allied Health Programs.
  • Provide leadership in curriculum development and improvement through study, analysis, review, and planning.
  • Evaluate programs to comply with the criteria established by the regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain Program accreditation with various governmental agencies.
  • Secure and hire staff including support staff and regular, adjunct, and substitute faculty, when necessary.
  • Coordinate and administer performance evaluations of faculty and other assigned staff.
  • Monitor clinical lab groups.
  • Monitor enrollment and make recommendations according to trends/fiscal demands.
  • Arrange for off-site facilities for clinical instruction in addition to continuously seeking additional clinical locations and maintain positive relations with partners.
  • Provide leadership in curriculum evaluation and revision for currency and relevance.
  • Supervise and implement student selection procedures.
  • Supervise the maintenance of student records as required.
  • Advise and dismiss students from the health career programs.
  • Mediate issues involving students and staff.
  • Manage Program budgets; develop budget recommendations.
  • Assist in the planning and organization of other in-service educational programs.
  • Leads advisory committee meetings.
  • Liaison between funding agencies and District
  • Keep current on Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technician (BVNPT), Department of Health Services (DHS), and other regulatory agencies rules and regulations.
  • Inform BVNPT, DHS of credential status of all faculty and when an instructor terminates employment.
  • Schedule visits for the consultants from the various regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare annual reports to the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technician and other health careers related reports.
  • Promotes, publicizes, and represents the Health Care Programs
  • Work with the Chief Instructional Officer to schedule all psychiatric technician, nurse assistant classes and other health career programs.
  • Secure external funding for the Program.
  • Serve as the liaison between affiliating and funding agencies and the District.
  • Monitor to ensure compliance regarding faculty health screening and license renewal.
  • Lead curriculum and program review process including area program and budget planning.
  • Lead efforts to coordinate industry advisory committee and employer connections.
  • Support efforts to facilitate/connect career connections for students.
  • Resolve student, faculty, and staff concerns in the area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Teaching experience in an associate degree or higher-level nursing or psychiatric technician program.
  • Experience preparing and managing budgets.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Department of Public Health.
  • Experience building community partnerships.
  • Experience mentoring, assigning, supervising, and evaluating faculty.
  • Experience in curriculum development and program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated excellence in nursing practice.
  • Knowledge of and experience in securing external funding.

Physical Abilities:
Position requires hearing, moderate lifting, bending, and reaching above shoulder, sitting or standing for extended periods, speaking to exchange information and interview students, and dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer terminal and other office equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing, education, health, or administration; and have a minimum of two years’ experience teaching in a pre or post licensure psychiatric technician or nursing program; and Have at least one year’s experience as a psychiatric technician or registered nurse providing direct patient care; or equivalent experience and /or education, as determined by the BVNPT or BRN.

Licenses and Certificates:
Must hold a current California license as a registered nurse.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment where minimal safety considerations exist with some travel to different sites; incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends. Travel to locations throughout the District may be required.
