Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Payroll Manager for Payroll Services. Reporting to the Senior Manager for Payroll, this role will put you at the forefront of managing payroll operations for one of the nation’s leading universities. As the Payroll Manager, you will have the chance to work collaboratively with the university’s financial leadership and human resources teams, ensuring that your efforts contribute to our strategic priorities and overall mission.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Lead & Innovate: You will oversee the administration of salary payroll and commitment accounting operations, influencing positive changes and enhancing customer-oriented processes that align with strategic goals.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or related experience.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in a financial/payroll function.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated experience managing payroll operations and leading teams.
  • Proficiency in payroll systems and processes, with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Exceptional communication skills, and computer literacy, including advanced MS Excel and Word proficiency
  • Excellent mathematics and communication skills
  • Excellent communication and organization skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and time sensitive environment with multiple competing priorities
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle complex payroll issues.
  • Skills to provide, and develop in staff, timely and professional customer service.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with an eye for process improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing an in-house payroll system for organizations of 1,000+ employees
  • Experience with ERP payroll system software – PeopleSoft and Oracle HCM Cloud a plus
  • Experience in a higher education environment
Equipment Utilized
  • Will be using general office equipment on a regular basis including laptop, printer/copier/scanner/fax machine and telephone system
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Will be required to work extended hours as needed during peak periods throughout the year.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
