Duties and Responsibilities

Application Pool Notice

Laredo College continuously accepts applications for part-time (adjunct) instructors to create a pool of candidates for each session/semester. Applications will be reviewed and positions will be filled based on department needs. Applications received for this pool will remain active for one year.


Position Requirements 

Upon employment, candidate must reside in the state of Texas.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Human Resources adjunct instructor is responsible for providing quality instruction and monitor teaching/learning effectiveness in the area of Human Resources. The instructor will provide students with the understanding and skill set necessary to function productively and effectively perform the daily human resources professional responsibilities. Develop curriculum and instructional strategies aimed towards student success. Provide a safe learning environment for students and encourage the use of available support services.

 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develop course/program curriculum to address the particular area of instruction via face-to-face, virtual and hybrid courses in alignment with the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) requirements

  2. Prepare tailored course documentation such as lesson plans, courses syllabi, assignments, quizzes/exams

  3. Follow daily lesson plans to ensure quality, consistency, and uniformity of instruction and student conduct

  4. Keep accurate attendance records and submit required continuing education class documents in a timely manner

  5. Provide students with information about the goals and requirements of each course, the nature of the course content and the methods of evaluation to be employed including required classroom behavior

  6. Measure each student’s progress through the use of written exams or performance assessments essential to mastery of unit objectives. Inform students of course progression and provide supplemental materials and/or instruction when necessary

  7. Be responsible for the efficient and safe operation, care, and appearance of assigned equipment, classroom/lab, and all other teaching materials

  8. Must be able to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality by following FERPA standards.

  9. Work a flexible schedule as determined by instructional activities and course enrollment

  10. Participate in training activities as needed by the department

  11. Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Continuing Education, Dean of Community Education, VP of Instruction and/or President.

 


Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Human Resources, or related field appropriate for the course content taught.

  • Three years of professional work experience in the Human Resources field.

Preferred:

  • One-year teaching/training experience 
  • aPHR, PHR, or SPHR Certified

 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to teach and solidify the necessary skills for students to launch their career in the Human Resources field.

  • Must be computer literate- word processing, spreadsheets, and the use of the Internet.

  •  Must be able to operate online platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, etc. 

  • Ability to navigate through a Learning Management System such as CANVAS 

  • Must be ethical when evaluating student outcomes

  • Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with the program staff and participants

  • Must be knowledgeable, mature, and concerned with the academic progress of participants

  • Bilingual preferred

  • Must demonstrate enthusiasm

  • Must be a self-starter and positive role model

  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form

  • Ability to instruct and maintain emotional control under stress

Physical Requirements  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.  

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work is performed in a standard office environment.    

Work inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time.
