The Division of Materials Science and Engineering at the Ames National Laboratory is searching for a qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate.

The successful candidate will work with Principal Investigators and Scientists researching elastocaloric and magnetocaloric technologies for cooling, heat pumping, and other related applications. The work will include developing, planning and performing experiments, critically analyzing results, performing optimization to improve outcomes, and generating reports, presentations and manuscripts for publication. The research will focus mainly on early-stage research and development of emerging technologies.

The position requires ability to work with a diverse team consisting of staff scientists, postdoctoral researchers, and students, and conduct both collaborative and independent research. Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet set milestones, and draft quarterly progress reports is essential. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills with positive attitude are also helpful to provide a professional work environment.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. must be completed prior to start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering or closely related field.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience with caloric heat pumping devices and systems.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience with caloric materials and characterization.

Experience modeling solid mechanics, fluid flow, and heat and mass transfer.

Demonstrated expertise in designing, building, and testing experimental equipment.

Demonstrated expertise in collecting, processing, and interpreting experimental data

Demonstrated publication record.
