About the Department

The Upper Piedmont Research Station (UPRS) is one of 18 agricultural research stations located in North Carolina. UPRS conducts research projects involved with Beef Cattle, row crops, horticultural crops and forestry products. UPRS is committed to provide land, personnel, expertise and equipment to research scientists conducting agricultural research projects which are important to efficient production of agricultural commodities. As research stations have diversified over time it has become essential to share and move equipment and commodities around the state.

Essential Job Duties

This position will support the agricultural research projects of faculty at a professional level. It will provide leadership and daily management for the field crops research program and assist in the beef cattle research program as well. 

The individual will be responsible for implementing field crop research protocols and maintaining research programs and experiments to meet research objectives. Activities will include operation of equipment and development and implementation of research management plans.

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Attention to detail required to successfully implement and monitor research projects.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple concurrent projects.
  • Successful candidate will be expected to communicate effectively with project leaders, peers and external audiences.
  • Ability to operate agricultural research and maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to lead work teams and manage the performance of the team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in an agricultural related field and 3 years of experience in field research.
  • Background in agricultural research and/or production agriculture.
  • Experience with mixing and application of pesticides and fertilizers.

Required License or Certification

  • NC Pesticide Applicator’s License or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid NC driver’s licenses or the ability to obtain within 60 days of start.
