POSITION SUMMARY: The Coordinator oversees all aspects of providing appropriate services for students with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, special education, counseling, psychology, or social work is required.

· Three years of experience in providing direct services to students with disabilities, preferably at the college/university level.

· Master’s Degree desired

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include but are not limited to the following;

· Conduct an intake process receiving and reviewing documentation from students who are requesting accommodations.

· Conducts individual interviews and needs assessment, as necessary, with students to determine appropriate accommodations. Prepares communications on behalf of qualified students to deliver to instructors outlining the appropriate accommodations as determined by the intake process.

· Provides guidance to students with disabilities to support the successful completion of their academic goals while at YCCC.

· Maintains confidential student files including appropriate and updated documentation to support the need for accommodations.

· Offer and coordinate the necessary accommodations, including reading examinations, arranging for texts in alternative formats, proctoring extended time tests, etc. ·

· Develops a base of resources to support students including assistive devices, use of volunteers and others who may provide appropriate services to qualified students.

· Researches, requests, purchases and arranges for training for up-to-date assistive technologies. Develops and delivers faculty and staff training and support.

· Collaborates with other departments and divisions to fulfill the needs of students with disabilities.

· Serves on college-wide, division, departmental committees and work groups and attends regularly scheduled Student Affairs meetings.

· Prepares monthly activity report for Dean of Academic Affairs and works on other process reports as necessary for the College, MCCS and granting agencies.

· Coordinates workshops for students working with this office.

· Other duties as assigned

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· Knowledge and understanding of current state and federal disability laws.

· Skillful at planning, developing, and implementing disability accommodations.

· Strong interpersonal as well as written and oral communication skills are necessary.

· Must be able to work in a team environment.

· Must maintain student confidentiality.

 

SALARY/BENEFITS: The salary for this position is pending classification and will be commensurate with the Agreement between the MCCS Trustees and the MEA Administrators Unit pay grade 3J ($25.59 per hour). Partial benefits package available.
