Position Summary

 

The Adult Education Instructor is responsible for conducting classroom instruction and the day-to-day operations of a comprehensive adult education program.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience and education as determined on Salary Schedule D3 of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees salary schedules.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Conducting classroom instruction as assigned.
  • Assist with the development and integration of planning, staff development, and evaluation programs leading to continuous program improvement.
  • Recruit prospective learners to include the disabled, non-reader, high school dropouts, unemployed, and non-English speakers.
  • Assist with the development of a quality instructional program based on sound assessment, teaching, learning, support services, and continual program improvement principles.
  • Effectively use promotional and public-relations strategies to foster the continued growth and improvement of the adult education program.
  • Apply the National Reporting System for Adult Education policies to program management and accountability matters.
  • Assist with the development of measurable program goals and objectives and implement activities to achieve them.
  • Integrate human and physical resources to continually improve program performance.
  • Submit student attendance and academic performance data to the Adult Education Administrative Assistant in a timely manner.
  • Utilize various computerized instructional programs for supplemental academic development.
  • Attend state or local provider sponsored adult education workshops, conferences, or training sessions.
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Provide WorkKeys, Ready to Work, and other certification instruction to program participants.
  • Ensure the instruction provided to program participants is appropriate to the skill and subject areas identified by the career and academic assessment.
  • Prepare accurate documentation related to grades, participant progress, files and program efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Establish positive rapport and supportive relationship with program participants.
  • Provide career counseling to program participants
  • Conduct Career Inventory assessments
  • Serve on College committees as assigned.
  • Participate in local, state and national professional organizations as appropriate.
  • Adhere to the policies of the Adult Education Program, Alabama Community College System and College.
  • Perform other duties related to the Adult Education Program as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree. Experience using current versions of the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office products.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Teaching experience is preferred. Experience working with adult learners is preferred.

The person chosen to fill the position is required to furnish official transcripts prior to the completion of the first semester of employment.
