Job Description
The Post-Doctoral Researcher will support research in the Environmental Sustainability research thrust in the Center for Energy & Environmental Sustainability CEES), an NSF-funded and Texas A&M University System recognized center at Prairie View A&M University. The Environmental Sustainability research comprises two main areas: shale gas & oil-produced water treatment; prediction of air quality trends in the context of climate change; and life cycle assessment (LCA) of various energy portfolios and scenarios. The candidate must have the necessary background and be responsible for all the tasks related to the above research and other funded projects in the Center.
This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct high-quality research on wastewater treatment (poultry processing wastewater treatment, shale oil, and gas produced water treatment, and others as needed) with membrane technologies, especially forward osmosis, membrane surface modification, and fabrication and/or other advanced technologies.
  • Conduct Lifecycle Analysis/Assessment (LCA) for different energy portfolios, transportation modalities, and other processes using commercially available software and existing literature.
  • Perform air quality studies in poultry houses and conduct air quality modeling in the context of changing climate.
  • Develop proposals for funding, write journal articles and supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students with research projects.
  • Perform other duties to assist the center director and the research team.
Required Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil (with Environmental focus) Engineering, or other related engineering or science fields.
  • No prior experience needed
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment. Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • One to two years of high-quality research experience with membrane processes, working with laboratory analytical equipment (GC, HPLC, etc),
  • Experience with either writing or assisting with grant proposals
  • High-quality record of publications.
  • Experience working with several faculty and monitoring and assisting graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
