Full/Part Time Status:
The Department of Pathology is recruiting for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar. This position is anticipated to start in May-June 2023. The Hefti laboratory studies neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular focus on tauopathies, using human post-mortem brain tissue and stem-cell derived neurons and astrocytes. We are particularly interested in the developmental role of the tau protein in humans and how this relates to its role in neurodegeneration. This position will help with projects on the role of tau in neuronal development and how failure or aberrant reactivation of these mechanisms triggers neurodegeneration using a combination of approved post-mortem human brain tissue and stem-cell models.
Education Requirement:
PhD or MD/PhD in biomedical or related sciences (Neuroscience, Pathology, Biomedical Engineering, etc.) or MD with at least 2 years of bench research experience
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent communication and writing skills in English
- 2+ years of experience with sterile mammalian cell culture
- Experience with histochemical staining techniques such as immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, RNA in situ hybridization, and/or immunocytochemistry.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with 2D or 3D stem cell cultures, including downstream differentiation (preferably human iPSCs or hESCs) is highly desirable
- Experience with flow sorting, single nuclear sorting or CRISPR.
- Neuroanatomy knowledge or a strong desire to learn
