Job Description

We are seeking a Research Assistant (RA) to participate in intimate partner violence (IPV) research with Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health faculty and local colleagues in IPV prevention and response. The RA will assist primarily with qualitative data collection and analysis related to men’s use of violence against an intimate partner.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Data analysis. Assist with qualitative data analysis and management.
  • Participant recruitment and qualitative data collection. Support participant recruitment and quantitative data collection in the Baltimore area among men who have caused harm, survivors of violence, and community stakeholders during regular and extended work hours to accommodate community-based research.
  • Research Support. Efficiently identify, review, and summarize research literature; support developing reference lists and formatting and submitting research papers and conference abstracts; assist with IRB applications.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Basic knowledge of qualitative data analysis software; experience in qualitative data collection and analysis.
  • Must be willing and able to travel independently to a service organization for IPV within the local Baltimore area (travel will be reimbursed).


Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral or Master’s Degree in public health, social work or related field.
  • A qualified applicant should be interested in and knowledgeable of IPV, sexual violence, and health disparities and have experience working with vulnerable populations.
  • The ideal candidate is outgoing, reliable, organized, objective, compassionate, and self-motivated, with strong interpersonal skills and ability in qualitative research methods and data analysis.
  • Experience with manuscript and grant development is preferred.
  • Training and experience with informed consent and data collection procedures preferred.
  • A commitment of 10 hours per week, negotiable.
  • Strong desire and ability to work in the community.
  • Ability to understand and apply specified research protocols.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, especially writing for manuscripts or high-level reports.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Starting Salary Range: $17.20 - $30.30 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)
