New Horizons Center is a non-profit organization that has been supporting Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities in Lake Havasu City, AZ for almost 50 years. We pride ourselves in community integration with the support we provide through various programs, which include, eight residential settings, day programs, habilitation, and group supported employment. New Horizons is looking for a Program Director to empower individuals with lifelong disabilities to enjoy life by promoting abilities and respecting personal choice.

The Program Director is responsible for developing programs, activities, and services that prepare our individuals for success by creating an environment that facilitates achievement and results in designated outcomes. Responsibilities include: program management, and supervision of staff, members, volunteers, and facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of the DTA/GSE/HAI programs, ensuring high-quality service delivery for the members we service.
  • Manage, implement, and improve the DTA and GSE program offerings to include academic topics, daily living skills, and social skills.
  • Ensure all community programs meet the quality and DDD standards and achieve desired outcomes for all of the members we serve.
  • Manage program budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop Work Support Instructors (WSIs) promoting program vision, growth, and accountability.
  • Maintain effective communication and build professional relationships with peers, members, their families, and the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD).
  • Cultivates collaborative relationships with community partners
  • Supports Organizational membership goals to include recruitment, retention, and attendance.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures and adherence to DDD regulations.
  • Conduct employee orientations to members and their location setting as assigned.
  • Identify WSI employees and become mentors for on-the-job training (OJT) to members and their locations.
  • Responsible for reporting any immediate issues pertaining to WSI staff to the Senior Director of Operations (i.e. arrest, traffic violation, license suspension, change in employee status, etc.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Monthly WSI staff meeting.
  • Manages Program supply budget and administration in accordance with accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensures required documents and reports are completed in a timely manner

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY and SKILLS

  • Understanding of adult learning techniques, facilitation and development practices
  • Working knowledge of federal and state laws and company policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain and cultivate excellent community relationships and possess excellent communication and customer service skill.
  • Ability to interact effectively and communicate (in writing and orally) with a variety of members, local government entities, neighborhood groups, agencies, schools and volunteers. Must also have the ability to effectively communicate with and maintain productive and effective working relationships with organization staff and management in accomplishing goals and objectives.
  • Ability to represent and make presentations to Board and other service/business/community groups.
  • Proficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to articulate for giving, serve as an ambassador, engage in relationship building and promote philanthropy.
  • Ability to support the efficiency of volunteers and future workforce needs to support volunteer program operations
  • Read, understand and abide by all New Horizons Administrative Policies, New Horizons Employee Handbook, New Horizons Job Description, DES-DDD, DHS Licensure, and any other local, state, or federal regulations pertaining to the job. This includes timely notification of violations to supervisor(s).
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a major in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, or guidance and counseling preferred. Minimal education requirement - High school diploma.
  • Three years of experience related to training programs for members with developmental disabilities are preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of training program concepts and fundamentals of developmental disabilities. General knowledge of community resources, assessment instruments and their administration, and report writing procedures.
  • Ability to collect data and prepare clear, concise written reports, and maintain records.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English. Computer skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must be able to lift Fifty (50) pounds without assistance. This position may require lifting/moving fifty (50) pounds several times a day, on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to physically perform CPR and other First Aid skills. Must be able to physically implement Prevention & Support Techniques. Must be physically able to stoop, bend, twist, reach, stretch, and be on ones feet for extended periods.
  • Must maintain an Arizona Class D driver's license and satisfactory driving record. Notifies the Human Resources Department of any infractions/suspensions affecting driver's license. (Loss of ability to be an authorized New Horizons driver will affect eligibility for position and may result in a re-assignment or demotion.)
  • Must work a flexible work week. This may include before and after core hours workdays and weekends, and coverage for co-workers on leave.
