Description

Instructors are responsible for providing quality, engaging, and college-level instruction in their specific field/discipline. Instruction will focus on student success and retention using various teaching strategies and delivery methods. Faculty are responsible for participating in professional development and promoting the College’s mission and vision.

Examples of Duties

Teaching:
Prepare & teach departmental courses to include:
  • developing learner centered lesson plans
  • employing teaching strategies & instructional materials for different learning styles
  • incorporating current technology in classroom and distance learning
  • creating and modeling a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population through seated, online, and hybrid courses
  • preparing, distributing and utilizing instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate
  • updating and revising curriculum to maintain currency
  • developing new courses as needed to support the instructional mission
  • participating in the development and review of course and program/general education outcomes as appropriate
  • developing, conducting and documenting appropriate assessment of student learning in outcomes courses and programs/general education as appropriate

Professional Development:
Maintain a professional status that supports the instructional mission by:
  • participating in professional development activities to maintain currency in field; maintaining current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation
  • participating in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies

Administration:
Provide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment and student records to include:
  • maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep of assigned equipment
  • providing for the security of facilities, equipment and instructional materials and maintaining safe working conditions
  • maintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using a variety of technology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, AVISO, Moodle)
  • complying with all applicable college, state and federal rules and regulations

Student Support:
Provide an environment conducive to student success to include:
  • participating with recruiting activities
  • promoting retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success
  • referring students to campus and community resources when appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum degree required for academic subject area based on SACSCOC faculty criteria.

Master degree in Communications (or) Master degree in related field with 18 graduate hours in Communications AND two or more years related work experience.

Bladen Community College is committed to the professional development and advancement of our team. Funding and support are provided for applicable workshops, conferences and other professional development activities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, instructors, students, and the public. Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video display. The noise level in the work environment in usually moderate. Evening and weekend hours may be required.

 


State Retirement:

  • Coverage is through the Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System
  • Coverage begins with date of full-time employment
Medical Insurance:
  • Coverage through the North Carolina State Health Plan
  • Coverage effective the first of the month after 30 days of employment

Holidays:
Eligibility begins with first day of full-time employment
Twelve (12) days per year to be announced by the President

Sick Leave:
  • Faculty earn 6 hours per month – 72 hours per year
  • Staff earn 8 hours per month – 96 hours per year
Annual Leave: (Staff positions only)
  • Accrual rates depend on years of service and accrued monthly
